Thanks. Does it mean, for example, if I am to get a used phone from Amazon that is Samsung S22 or later, it will be compatible with Public Mobile?
I have a Samsung S20, which is still perfectly workable. Based on your answer, this is why I received this text from PM about phone not working by March 2027. It's most regrettable, as this is going to create massive e-waste.

for used phone, consider buying from Mobile Klink, it is owned by Telus and it provides one year warranty for Certified Preowned Phones
if you buy from Amazon, look for those "Sold and shipped by Amazon", avoid those sold by 3rd party sellers
You may also want to check out Costco—they often have great deals on brand-new phones from Samsung and Motorola, including entry-level and mid-range models.

And by "trusted sources," are you in any position to recommend any?

yes, a S22 will work.
Just for your awareness, S22 will stop getting security updates from Samsung in early 2027. But for better data protection with longer security updates, consider getting S23 or S24 if the price difference is not much.
And remember to buy used phones from trusted sources. Phones from private sales and Marketplaces are not always reliable
