I cannot call numbers like 1-800 or 1-866

My phone is not fully ported. How can I make phone calls to numbers such as 1-800 or 1-866 if their numbers are not valid?

the 1800 issue is a recent issues for some customers, but PM can resolve it quickly and you just need to open a ticket

Simply open ticket with PM using the Orange Chatbot icon on the lower right. (For 2FA  code when login, use email to receive code instead of SMS if you cannot receive the text on the phone.)    When open Chatbot ticket, Type the question Submit ticket and select Contact Us to get to ticket open screen       

But if you have trouble using Chatbot to open ticket, then message PM using this link:

This is not a porting issue. I’m Public Mobile user as well and I cannot call 1-800 numbers from my mobile device. It’s a really big nuisance. You can’t call Apple support. You can’t call your bank. You can’t call your credit card company and they can’t call you.

It’s 2026 and I’m still having this issue with Public Mobile. What a disaster you can’t call your bank. You can’t call Apple support complete nightmare credit card can’t do anything

I just called Telus just now. Maybe it is just my phone. I cannot make or get toll free calls right now.

@Xm1982 - how long ago did you activate? Does texting or data work?

Cell numbers can take up to 2 hours to; landlines/voip up to 3+ days. 

If a cell number was ported over to Public did you receive an SMS text to approve the port on the old provider's SIM card? IF not, insert the old SIM card back into your phone maybe the text is there to approve and reply to.

If you can't make outgoing phone calls, it is not only a potential porting issue, but your PM account was not set up properly.  Did you reboot your phone? 

You will need to contact customer service agent first.  Porting Telus team will not be able to help with PM account issues. 

Either submit a ticket for customer service agent or

hi @Xm1982 if no outbound calls at all, try Reset All Networks on your phone. Try your PM sim on another phone.

if same, submit ticket with CS agent and they will refresh the account for you

Hi @Xm1982 calling out has nothing to do with porting 

Can you make regular outbound calls? can you receive inbound calls.?  If you can only make regular outbound calls but not receive inbound, then it is related to porting

Porting is unrelated to issue with outgoing calls.  Some toll free number can't be reached form Canada as some of toll free numbers are limited to received calls form speciific locations.
