Hi, I am currently a Rogers customer and interested in switching to the $40 Public Mobile plan. Could someone please explain the process for porting my number from Rogers to Public Mobile? Specifically, I would like to know:
Thank you in advance for your help!

Make sure your Roger’s phone is still working as Rogers will text you to confirm that you authorize your number to move to PM.
Another approach is to buy a PM Sim from Amazon for $4.99 (if you can use a SIM), set up and secure the $40 plan (just in case of a price or plan change), choose a PM number. Once all is running good, then pursue the port. No charges.

no problem with that approach, but to make sure smooth activation, it is better to remove the Rogers sim card and while you activate PM esim. The reason to do so is many people are not familiar with how to config a phone with two sims and got tricked on the sim setup with 2 sim on the phone

Is this approach recommended? Are there any specific steps or precautions I should be aware of for using the eSIM first before porting my number?
That sounds perfect. And to just double check that your phone will work flawlessly with pm, take a peek at this link. At the bottom of the page you can enter your imei number to make sure it does work on the pm network.

Better to be safe than sorry.

No difference between eSIM and physical
And also, either type of Sim, you still use PM app to activate

Could you please also share how the eSIM process works for porting? Specifically, can the number porting be done entirely with eSIM activation via the app? Are there any differences or additional steps compared to using a physical SIM card?
To activate with pm you need to download the app. You can of course, purchase an esim instead of a sim card. You just need to make it your primary esim if you currently have a rogers esim. Like mentioned, you can do it all at once but most here suggest doing the temporary number first to make sure all is working. People regret not doing this move first as they can be without cell service for several days till it's resolved. And since there is no customer service number you can call for help, it takes much longer than what should be a normal process.

Hello.
It's been suggested here on the forum by other members to first get yourself a sim card from Amazon. Sign up using the app and make sure all functions are working properly. Once they are, then you can log into your account under profile and then port your number from Rogers over. Your Rogers account must be active and must have your Rogers sim card in the phone to receive a porting request text within 90 minutes.
There are no fees to transfer or port over your number.
Porting should be within an hour or so but sometimes unforeseen technical issues do happen but there is online support to assist if it happens.
