How does this work.

I am new to all this and older so don't understand some of these things.

If I get a 5G plan and currently only have a 4G phone, will it work? The 5G plans seem to be better.

With the Canada-Us-Mexico plans, does that mean the phone works the same everywhere in those countries, I won't get extra bills if I use the phone for data, phone calls or texts outside of Canada?

Sorry, this may all seem obvious to others but I get confused by it and need to be sure that if I am in the States for a month or so I won't get a surprise bill at the end.

It shows up as working on the Telus list, does that mean it will work in the States, or just on the Telus system?

Guess I haven't been in the States for a year and a half. Last time I was part of Telus and everything seemed to work fine. Is it just with this program that it won't work now or will it not work with any plan, anywhere in the States? I am looking to go to Utah, Arizona, New Mexico, places around there.

In the US, they've recently (2022) shut down their old 3g that used to facilitate calling. Now you need volte for calling. Us oldsters need to stick together...so my suggestion is to look on the list of volte enabled phones and upgrade before going. There's some alternatives, but my suggestion is to get a newer phone, Gramps.

@Canoer62  Can’t say for certain Telus allows more phones to access the voLTE whitelist check here for your phone

@Canoer62  Just to add to @hairbag1  comments with that phone you would have to rely on 2G and connect to T mobile to work in the U.S. only other work around would be to download text now app or what’s app for voice until you decide to upgrade phone in the PM voLTE whitelist

it doesn't look good, I'm afraid...that cellphone is a few years old now and volte is likely not enabled or included in the Public Mobile whitelist of volte enabled phones. You'll find you can't make calls while in USA with that cellphone.

@Canoer62

not all cellphones will be able to make calls while in USA particularly. If you let us know what make your phone is, we can confirm and give you suggestions for best performance.

Yes, your 4G phone will work with the 5G plans.

As for the US-Mexico plans, your hone will work the same in those countries.  No extra bills or surprise charges with Public mobile.  If you don't have that feature, the service just won't work.

However, for talk services in the USA, it is better to have a VoLTE PM compatible phone for better talk services.

@Canoer62 Public Mobile is a pre paid provider. This means that you will NEVER receive a bill or charges after the fact. You pay upfront for all services and add ons.

@Canoer62  Yes it will still work on 4G only phone with 5G plan and you will stil get better speeds of 4G plan on 4G phone with 5G plan no worries and yes you can use the phone in all 3 countries to call to and from using voice text and data no surprises bills as roaming is built into that plan
