How can I port my Canadian number out to use in Australia

Hello, I recently moved to Australia (for one year) but want to keep my Canadian number and continue to receive texts and calls from it. All of my bank and 2FA is also connected to this number.

Since Public mobile doesn't seem to have roaming options, I am looking for port my number to a different service provider. However, in order to port my number, I need to respond to a SMS within 90 minutes to verify that I want to port it out. Since I am already in Australia I can't receive that SMS. Is there any other way I can port out my number??

Also are there any other solutions for me to continue using my Canadian number in Australia?

This is what im trying to do, port out to Voip.ms. And the issue is exactly that I can't respond to the text from PM to port out because I am already in Australia, so Ive been in contact with both companies to see what they can do.

When I travel, I call forward my PM number to a VOIP number like TextNow. When somebody calls me, the the call gets call forwarded to the TextNow number. I can also call Canada for free from the TextNow app.

I cannot text forward to the TextNow number. Apparently, you can pay a small fee to use the TextNow number for 2fa. However, I have read that it is not very reliable. You are better off contacting your bank and finding another alternative for 2fa, including using their Bank app, email authentication or Google authenticator.

Please note that TextNow can only be downloaded and set up while in Canada or the United States, but can be used all over the world. There are other VOIP apps like Fongo which work similarly.

Good luck.

You can also port your number to VoIP.ms. They have texting. You can get a softphone app to make and receive calls using data or wifi. They have developed “their” version of a soft phone for Android and iOS to follow. It will cost you…and is all in American dollars. Check them out. Lots of neat options with VoIP.ms. Lots of options to pay based on your needs.

Keep in mind that porting out will close your PM account and any rewards will be lost. And you may not be able to return to your current plan.

Porting out……find out what the rules are.  Mainly ……. do you have to respond to a text from PM to confirm the port out? That might be an issue.

You can't port your number to an Australian carrier.

But you can port your number to Fongo app but you need to be in Canada to confirm the porting text.

I'm assuming you're trying to port to a VoIP or other Canadian provider with roaming support. It's impossible to port a Canadian number to an Australian provider.

A Public agent may be able to manually approve it (I know other providers can), but I'm not 100% sure. You could submit a ticket and ask.
