Connect with the provider you want to switch to and start the porting process with them.
They should take care of everything.
If you have a credit card registered with Public Mobile, I recommend you remove it prior to porting out (you can do this by calling 611).
Once you are ported to the other provider your account is closed and have no more access to your self serve account.
Any amount already paid to PM is not prorated back to you as this is a prepaid service.
Good luck!

@AP123 You do not need PM's permission to leave, BUT, as noted, your account must be active to transfer your number.

If you really decide to go, make sure your PM account is active (not suspended). Activate your new account with your new provider. Request a porting from PM, you will need your PM Account Number which you can find in My Account
After the request, PM will send you a text to confirm you are going. You just need to reply Yes within 90 mins. Your acknowledgement will allow PM to pass your number to your new carrier.
So, don't throw away your PM SIM yet. Keep it until everything working well with the porting.
One last thing, this is extra but people like the peace of mind. You might want to disable Autopay and remove your credit card

and for public mobile just remove your payment and when your Transferring your Phone Number to New carrier, your account with public mobile will be automatically closes,
and Make sure that you have the old sim card in your phone when you're Transferring your number. You should get a message from your old carrier asking to confirm if you would like to port your number. Your reply should be: YES.
The confirmation message can take a few minutes to come in. You have 90 minutes from the time of request.

@AP123 Once you port out your number, you'll receive a text from PM to confirm that you have requested the number transfer. Just need to keep your PM SIM in your phone until you've responded and confirmed that you want to transfer out. Your account will close once the porting is complete so make sure to remove any payment card from your account before you transfer.
