I pulled the sim put it into my iPhone and waited for the call. He turned on find my iPhone and it showed another number.
it is really too bad public mobile is so not customer focused. You need to have an account to DM moderators.

@Nickintofino did you end up returning the phone to the rightful owner? or what have you done? Just curious how the story ended 🙂

If you just found the phone, the owner may call it. You can answer the phone even if it's passcode locked. This happened to us, we found someone's brand new iPhone 11 on the street in our neighbourhood and the owner (a teenager) called the phone 2 hours after we found it and we actually knew the owner, or at least we knew his dad, so we dropped the phone off with his dad. The owner may call, or you can try to contact Public Mobile to trace the phone via sim number. They may be reluctant to give you any information or contact the owner on your behalf, either way, you have done nothing wrong. There is nothing wrong with finding a phone and making an effort to contact the rightful owner. You don't need to contact the police, they can't help in this situation.

Hopefully the customer was thoughtful enough to place an e-mail address or contact phone number on their lock screen.
You could provide the SIM number on the card to Public Mobile moderators and they might likely be able to cross-reference that to a customer account.
They'll have an e-mail address, and a possible alternate phone number, for the registered customer.

Since you cannot open a ticket, best bet is private message to moderators
Thanks

I would suggest you can try to hope the owner call the phone and you can answer the phone or Give it to a police if possible.
Also, be careful, There is no finder's keepers rule. If Find My iPhone is activated and the owner successfully tracks you, you can be in a bit trouble if the owner not believe your story.. but of course, you can use this post to show you actually tried you best to get it back to the owner.

Hi @Nickintofino , well that is nice of you! I hope you can get the phone to its rightful owner.
Is it charged? Can you access the info/contacts?
Hopefully the owner calls the phone and you can connect that way.
Not sure if the MODS can help, but maybe...?
