Hello,
I recently purchased a Pixel 7. When I inserted my Public Mobile SIM card, it showed a exclamation point on the service bar. When I went to use data, it worked and the exclamation point was gone. But when I turned it off, it appeared again. I can still make calls and texts.
I've done steps like:
Restarting the phone
Resetting network settings
Resetting APN settings
Using airplane mode
Manually selecting 3G and LTE
Cleaning the SIM Card
I used a family member's Public Mobile SIM card and the exclamation point was gone. I'm not sure what the issue is and how to get rid of it. I would be grateful if anyone can help.
Edit: I think the solution is basically what @chipmunk said. I think the exclamation point just appears when not using data.
I thank everyone who replied. You helped me a lot.
2nd Edit: Customer Support got back to me and they are sending a new SIM card. I'll update this post if anything changes with the new SIM card.
3rd Edit: Received new SIM card, exclamation mark is still there when not using data. Maybe a problem with UI
Thank you everyone who replied!

@softech , I don’t know how I completely missed this message of what you found! I must have been half asleep! 🤣 Sorry!

Still can't understand why when the OP used a family member's SIM card, the device behaved differently. At least that's what I understood from their comments. 🤔
@HALIMACS , that confuses me for sure but after several google searches about that phone …. I found this & wonder if that’s normal then but still wonder why the family members SIM card in that phone doesn’t show the exclamation symbol when data is turned off! Either way if calls, text & data work when it should it must be fine!
“Sometimes, it's as strong as it can be, though it still has no internet access, displaying a small exclamation mark next to the signal symbol. This indicates you're having network issues on your Pixel 7.Jan 23, 2023” I assume due to @phone_problems data is turned off when the exclamation symbol shows up! Which sounds normal now!

its also safe to disable the "allow 2g" option. this will disable the 2g radio. if one ever feels the need to have it enabled ie. roaming in the US/emergencies, one can always re-enable the option

@phone_problems wrote:I have the same issue and plan. The mark is there when I don't use data but disappears when I do use data
I don't consider it an issue? For me it's a confirmation that data is off and I'm using my phone as I intend to in that monment.

seeing the exclamation mark when mobile data is disabled is normal... by the way keep the preferred network on LTE as leaving it on auto recommended will enable the 5g radio which will use more battery and might cause compatibility issues with some towers. PM also doesn't support 5g

I have the same issue and plan. The mark is there when I don't use data but disappears when I do use data

No, I'm in Brampton but I'll try your advice

@phone_problems , you said “I used a family member's Public Mobile SIM card and the exclamation point was gone.” So I’d say it’s not your phone but your public mobile service. Please do as @HALIMACS suggested & ask the Customer Support agents if they might try a reprovision of your SIM card / account.
Let us know how it goes.

I have a Pixel 6a on the latest updates.
For me the expanation mark shows up on the mobile data indicator on the status bar when I manually turn off data in the settings. When I toggle data back on the exclamaiton mark disappears.
If I remember correctly (it's been a while...) the data toggle was automatically set to on when I first put the Public Mobile SIM. I'm on the $15 plan and turn data off manually when I'm in WiFi range / don't need data.
Edited to add: On my previous phone (a 2017 Sony Experia Z3) the exclamation mark showed up when I'd used all my data and was cut-off for the month.

@phone_problems so 3G works?
it could a 4G issue in the area. Try using your phone in different area with 4G and if it works elsewhere on 4G , it is good
You can then try your 4G back again where you are now in couple days, if you still not getting 4G and data where you are now, then open ticket with PM support
BTW, you are not in Ottawa or Quebec area? there is outage there now

I've tried this and my phone is still on 3G and it works.

My SIM card worked perfectly on my previous phone. I've also restored my phone with my PM SIM card inside but the exclamation point was still there.

@phone_problems ok, at least no need to worry about the phone
can you use your sim card on another phone as well and confirm nothing wrong?
If it works, it is not account. I think what you need to do next is to reset the phone again with the PM sim inside. Wipe the phone and re-setup everything with the PM sim inside

Do you ever lose connectivity, @phone_problems even though you're seeing that exclamation mark?
It's interesting you note that when putting another SIM card in the device you do not get the exclamation point.
I'd ask the Customer Support agents if they might try a reprovision of your SIM card / account.
To contact a Customer Support Agent, there are 2 methods:
Watch for their response in your Community private mailbox which will be indicated by a number on the small envelope icon to the left of your Community avatar.

My calls still go perfectly and I'm sure that I'm using data. I purchased the phone directly from Google itself and I've checked the IMEI and it comes as clean

I have done this but the issue still persists

@phone_problems voice not working?
you sure the "data" you are using is not wifi?
where you got the phone from? from trusted source or private sell?
For peace of mind, check if the phone is clean here:
