Does PM support 411?

Hey,

The title says it all. I am inclined to think that if you have enough money on your balance that 411 is feasible.

With privacy concerns all through the world, a publicly accessible listing of subscriber information is almost non-existant now.

Landlines were listed in the telephone book and distributed by local telcos for ages.  I don’t remember the last time I used one, let alone received one.

In Canada, subscriber personal information cannot be released without the persons direct consent authorization.

411 is old and outdated in the age of multiple telcos.  Find people via social media such as LinkedIn or Facebook to get published contact info.

Is it me or is this answer filled with irony?

4-1-1 isn't as used nor is yellowpages because we have social media. The telephony companies need "direct" consent from individuals to toss them into the phone book, which the phone book is usually landlines.

What does social media do if not collect all of our user data? Sure we "agree" to this by accepting the very familiar EULA that every registry-based website has, but I'd love to know how many users really read the EULA - sure few do, but the majority don't. Why? Well part of the reason any way, is they don't care/want to. It's paragraphs and paragraphs of legal bs that's essentially reserved for lawyers when you step out of line and the company has to cover its own behind. May as well retitle it TLC (The Liability Consent Form) but that would be far too forward for business...

@Obice oh, it's a legit service!  It's just not accessible for PM customers.

Pardon if this is a dumb thought but: you obviously have access to the Internet and are comforable with at least basic interaction with it. Would you not prefer to do a Google search for your deisred phone number(s), for free?  I can't remember the last time I needed to dial 411....  but I think the year started with a 19 rather than a 20.

I don't wanna get technical... I don't wanna get technical... I don't...

Nothing is free. You are either paying for your ISP to make an inquiry with Google or your cell phone provider, or some other way or means that still uses up someone elses or something elses resource, e.i. the library, hotel.

Yes, I could easily Google any number or use yellow pages (another archaic method, I bet), but 4-1-1 is a service where you just ask the operator to forward you to whoever you ask them to go to. Oh, and I doubt you can look up someone's name on Google whom you know personally and ask for their number -- maybe in the future(?). Never know with a company like Google.

This would go against the policy of not having pay-per-use charges.

How so? I recall reading somewhere that 4-1-1 costs $4 per call, if someone has $4 or more in their account I see no reason why they can't call.

You couldn't have read that on a legitimate place because it simply just doesn't exist.

This is a Public Mobile forum so not sure what Fido Prepaid has to do with this company. However with Prepaid companies other then Public & Lucky Mobile you are able to do anything with your Balance because they all have pay per use charges.

Public Mobile is 100% Strictly Pay Before Prepaid service. You can put as much money in your Public Mobile Account, it will just sit there for your Plan Renewal or to Pay for add ons you may want to Purchase. There are absolutely no overages, pay per use or any sort of charges. Your Balance is 100% safe regardless how much is in your account.

Public Mobile doesn't go into balances to collect per-usage charges.

When you dial 1 (areacode) 555-1212, it says the same thing. This is the universal number which connects to 411. Should be able to use it in any (areacode).

I don't believe that PM does not support 411 directory assistance.
