Do phones (network function) have a lifespan?

I had a LG PowerX for 7yrs with "Freedom. That phone's network/phoning function died. After taking up issue with 3-tiers of tech-support without resolution, I gave up after this last-straw, giving them way to many chances of "tech support". It sucked since I couldn't port that #  (due to no network). Telus helped getting a PM# close to the my old#.

That phone is useable as a back-up on wifi and a Voip# still. Anyone have similar issues with carrier networks/phones lifespan?

Note: tried most if not All tips to fix, also 3-tiers tech support.

I guess even Tier2 or Tier1 support won't be able to help much with a 6 years old phone with a faulty hardware issue.

Take the SIM out, put it on another phone that fits it so you can receive the text and you can port your number away from Freedom to get back your "freedom"  🙂

@jojo9

I have just confirmed with freedom that you just need to put your sim card in another phone to recieve the porting authorization text. If your sim card is not working or as I presented it your phone was stolen they told me to go to a freedom store and explain the phone was stolen and they will give you a free replacement sim card to recieve the text.

@jojo9

Oops...my bad. Freedom yes....still if your phone is stolen Freedom allows the thief to steal your phone number too? That's bad intel.

 @jojo9 : As I mentioned...put the SIM in another phone, start the transfer, confirm it, re/re with new SIM. Wait for it to complete.

As noted it was with Freedom. For security they don't do verbal or email, only text security codes, no network - no security code.

@jojo9

That wouldn't affect the portability of a phone number. Even without the phone or sim card to recieve the porting authorization text their are other ways to authorize the porting of your phone number. Like a verbal authorization with a fido customer service agent. But of course it is fido.....

 @jojo9 : 7 years is 6 years past warranty. Tech dies.

Can you insert the old SIM into whatever phone and do the transfer and wait for the confirmation text and move on?
