Couple of things to pin point the problem.
Your my account will tell you the plan and data left for this billing cycle. If that is showing total of 4.5GB and 2.5GB used and 2GB left then PM side is good.
I use a third party app to track my data and it has the warning for daily limit and cutoff data for month in settings. If you are using one of those then check and let us know, we should be able to guide you the settings for that app. If you are not using any of that, then let us know your phone model and someone will help you with the phone settings.
We have very talented bunch of helping participants.

Check data usage by app.
Check if you have any app measuring and controlling your data usage. Maybe you or somebody else set up data limit.
And check default settings for data usage - did you limit how much data you can use? You might have option to set notification when you reach certain data usage limit which will be helpful to track how much you use data.

As mentioned above, check your phone settings for data limit function. If you don't have any data limit set on your phone, double check your self service account. Check your plan details to make sure that you are on the right plan. Do you see a data tracker in your Data and Add on section? Does it show 2.5 GB left? If you don't see a data tracker, that means that you ran out of data this 30 day cycle. Your phone data tracker may not by in sync with your account cycle.

If you're data is shutting off after you've used 2.5 GB of data, like you said then maybe you have a data limit set on your phone to stop using data once you've reached 50 percent of your data allowed.
Check out your phone settings about data usage and limits!
Edit.... It's like an alarm that maybe you set up yourself and just forgot. Just change it to 100 percent.
