Credit Card Auto Pay - Does the Card have to have my name on it?

Raymo

After much anticipation and some waiting, I have finally received my Public Mobile SIM card in the mail, and am ready to activate. Clearly, it would be best to use a credit card to arrange auto-payments. I do not have a credit card, and do not really want one, especially with the current acceleration in alternative payment methods being adopted. Can I register with my partner's credit card, or is it required that the card matches my identity?

hi there,

You can use your partner's credit card

or you can also use a Canada Post Visa card which you can apply for at any Canada Post office. It is a debit card which will have your name on it. Just remember to update the amount in it before each payment due date.  🙂

I know right? It makes no sense to me why this change has occurred especially with the extra long wait times for moderators recently but it appears there will be no further explanation for the reasoning behind this change.

Yep, PM has bugs and quirks. This one is at least balanced by suspended numbers elligible for porting.

Are you sure on the above? Last year I did my wife's port from Telus prepaid as part of the activation process.

All porting from Telus and Koodo now requires a moderator's help.  The procedures were different last year. This change is very recent.

Here's a little advice on having an error free activation. Make sure you are using the correct e-mail that you registerd for the promotion and have you referral code ready to enter on the first page during activation.

But before you start do this:

  1. Clear the browser of your device and close all tabs.
  2. Do device maintenance.
  3. Reboot your device.
  4. Open one tab only using chrome, firefox or safari.
  5. Use secret/private/incognito mode.

Have both your credit cards billing address and your official Canada post address ready....for when you get to the choose a plan/payment stage......

  1. If your statement is in ALL CAPS then use them.
  2. Do not autofill whatsoever.
  3. Do not use the apt/unit box. Leave it blank.
  4. If you have a suite # add it to your street address.
  5. When you fill out the street address default to the canada post address if there is a discrepancy. You can use the billing address on your second attempt if necessary.
  6. Example: (suite#) 101-123 1ST AVE E , MYTOWN , PROV , CANADA , X0X0X0
  7. Do not use a space in the postal code. If there is one on your second attempt leave a space and drop the last digit.
  8. Make sure you use the full name on the card.

BTW....never use the back button! You will end up having to wait an hour and start over again. Good luck and Welcome to public mobile!

@Raymo  If you have Canadian PayPal, once activated you may pay with https://www.xoom.com/canada/mobile-reloads

@Raymo : You can also use those prepaid "credit" card gift cards. Or vouchers.

Don't forget to use a referral code to get a $10 credit.

@Raymo  Yes, you may register any valid credit card.

In fact, only a) your email address must be uniquely you, and b) the credit card address must be correct; everything else in the account may be anything at all.

BTW: I've have had no problems with service in 6+ years but still recommend you read: https://productioncommunity.publicmobile.ca/t5/Getting-Started/BE-PREPARED/m-p/112014#M20827
