I have the $15 plan which includes 100 Minutes Canada-Wide Talk. I was notified this morning that I have only 9 minutes left. When I checked my account online, I saw that I have 400 minutes from the Free Holiday Giveaway that I have never used. Why would I be sent the low minutes notification when I still have those minutes?

This is a bit confusing, I could swear that I read a complaint about 2 months ago about no expected sms notification and poster only realising when they already used up more than half of add-ons. Everyone was saying it's normal they let you know at 75% or 90% of your combined total.
Is it different because those minutes are different in nature? Would 500 mins add-on get the same treatment?
@kselmak I would agree that it's confusing because the warnings seem to be bit of hit and miss. My experience with the $10 plan is that there has been zero warning texts being received when the plan minutes have been used up. This plan barely uses any texts so I have no idea if the warning for that would be received when it reached 75% or 90% usage.
However, PM must have done some changes because now minutes being used from the 500 mins add-on is being shown on the overview page usage summary, although still not properly, ie: 83/975 used, instead of the correct total of 892/1000 used. But the remaining minutes are correct when clicking on the View My Usage page.
With PM you basically have to see how your particular account and the usage details are being treated and not how they should be treated. Oh well!

I would agree that one should get the warning on plan data, not total. Alas.
From what I have heard, you will get NO warnings at all with a data add-on present on your account. You can burn through all of your base data, and then through all of your add-on data without getting a single warning until your data stops working when you finally run out.

I guess it's nice and informative if *TALK* usage warnings work as one would think, warning when the base minutes are about to be used up, prior to entering into add-on usage.

The limited minute plans warn at 10 minutes. The obsolete limited text plan warns at 10 texts.
Not percent.

@Geo1...one other thought is to get the $5 / 500 minutes of Canada wide calling add-on applied to your account. Any unused minutes roll over at renewal...until you've used them up, even if that takes several months or longer. This add-on is especially suited to the limited calling plan such as yours.
You can save the 400 minutes of International calling to call your rich uncle in China, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, India, Italy, South Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, Poland, Portugal, Puerto Rico, Singapore, Spain, Thailand, United Kingdom, United States, or Venezuela.
Stay safe !

@Geo1 I'm on the same plan as you are. To save more, add the TextNow voip app and use it via Wifi to make / receive / send calls and texts in Canada and to the United States for free. You can also use it as I do to check my voicemail from my own phone without using the minutes from the PM plan. Simply dial your PM phone number - reject the call when it rings (this sends the call to voicemail) - press the * key to allow you to enter your password. - enter - and you are in your voicemail account - Hang up when you are finished. No minutes used. Thank you

Thanks, everyone, for the explanation!

@Geo1 Notification informs you only about mins/data from your original plan and not from your addons.

@Geo1 the notifications only apply to plan minutes and data. Which is a good thing. Because it tells you when your bonus or add ons are about to be used, or if you don't have any to get them.

The notification was for your 100 minutes only.
