I am changing from Public to Koodo, would like to keep the same number. Koodo is telling me my phone is locked by Public Mobile. I own my phone, why would public lock my phone? How to get it locked? Thanks

@pmdrone   I agree, yes it does, it happened to me.  I bought a 2017 phone in 2018 and I guess they hadn't unlocked it from the year before.  I had to get the carrier to send me the unlock code.

It's still locked, though.   This happens again and again - even though it's supposedly illegal.

@RashidS

This is not true since it is illegal to lock phones in Canada since December 1, 2017.

PM is not locking anybody's phone.
Any Canadian phone purchased since 2018.12.01 have to be unlocked. Easiest way to check is to put some other SIM into your phone (Bell, Rogers, etc.) and see if it works.

Porting should be straight forward. You initiate transfer at Koodo, keep PM SIM to reply on SMS within 90 minutes with YES and that should do it.

@RashidS  Koodo should be able to unlock it for you as public mobile and Koodo is telus but here’s a link to PM support to unlock phone for you
