Changed Subscription to 5G but still getting 3G service on phone

My phone has 4G calling service capabilities and the preferred network is set to 4G. Yet the phone shows 3G service all the time.

I removed the SIM and restarted  the phone with no results.

Any solutions?

It doers matter in town too. Can't send or receive MMS as well as the voice-to-text feature . Both features only work on the 4G network (Both features worked with the BELL SIM).

Can we petition Public/Telus to open the network to all devices?

It matters to me when I'm in the States. The 3G network doesn't let calls go through at times.

oh, you trying to use 4G for VoLTE?  Your phone is not whitelisted with PM for VoLTE.  Only select, mainstream phones can use VoLTE here

Many of us using 3G for voice, it is not as good as VoLTE , but it works

the 4G or 5G only matters if it is data

I put in a BELL SIM and it showed 4G VOLTE. Must be either the network or the SIM itself.

Solution?

that phone is not a 5G phone. But with your 5G plan, you can still use the 4G or LTE network and get top 5G speed.  But yours an old style flip phone, you don't need very fast speed

And check the menu and see if you can change network mode.  Change to 4G or LTE

Having a Galaxy S20 series device wouldn't explain the lack of LTE network connection. While these device wouldn't be able to use the 5g network in conjunction with Public Mobile service, these devices do fully work on LTE at Public Mobile.

@HNR1

Go on your phone Settings>Cellular Data Options>enable LTE if you have an iPhone.

On Android go to Settings>Cnnections>Mobile Network>Network Mode>enable GSM/HSPA/LTE (auto connect).

@HNR1  in the settings click on Cellular / Cellular Data Options / Voice & Data...enabled 5G, if you want. What area are you located ?
