Hello all,
I've been using Public Mobile for about a month now, my number having the new area code 672 and I've had a lot of problems since:
1. Cannot call a certain toll free number: contacted Mods / Technical teams and they said it was because the toll free number had not been set to recognize 672 as local.
2. Some online forms returned "invalid phone number" for area code 672.
3. Just this morning, someone with area code 604 tried calling me but got the message “we couldn’t complete the call, check the number, add country code and area code” instead (tried with and without country code +1). However, it connected when I called them back.
I could still receive SMS and calls (though I'm not sure everything because I've only noticed by one person about calls not going through). Also, the person unable to call me was from government service so I cannot ask them to call me again to check, unfortunately.
I want to ask the community if you also got similar issues, and if yes, was it a problem for area code 672 in general, or a Public Mobile-specific one. The problem with incoming calls not connecting is the most severe because I don't want to miss any important calls. I'm considering changing my phone number to an older area code, but it would be quite a hassle so I want to make sure to identify the correct source of the problem before committing.
Thanks a lot.

If it wasnt my primary phone I would probably enjoy a 672 area code just to hassle companies that dont support it properly... 🙂
Looks like only Telus Mobility and a sparse few VoIP providers are allocated in that area code so far.

I have several friends with the (236) area code and they haven't experienced any issues.

778 numbers are available in Aldergrove - within the Vancouver local calling area.

I'm a very light user so I haven't experienced every event. I did have a dropped call this evening.
The 236 number has been fine. (I doubt it had anything to do with the dropped call.)
Just keep flipping through sets of numbers and you might stumble across an older number that has been given up.
For us out west here, in just a few minutes now (9pm PT), a new set of numbers seem to come up active.

A little trick that takes a bit of time is to choose the province then city and you get a list of 5 or so numbers. If you don't like them, flip to the next alphabetical city and it gives you that list but then flip back to your desired city and it gives another set of numbers for that city. Doing that for a while may pop up with the odd area code/prefix that you might like. The number probably won't be great but it's the area code/prefix anyway.
I eventually found what I thought to be pretty cool new numbers so I chose one. I did see the odd 250 go by. But I picked a new 236.

@vvdska try for a 778 or 236 one. Also look at the 2nd set of numbers. Its the second set of numbers that determine whether your number is local or not. Ie xxx yyy xxxx. Please check the CNAC website to check if your number is local or not http://www.cnac.ca/co_codes/co_code_status.htm . , if you have friends or family with landlines, saves them from long distance charges. Stay safe.

So if I decided to change my number, which area codes do you suggest to get? Are there any others to avoid too?
I've used 250 for years without issue. 604 has been around forever too.

The only problem area codes are the 672...that I've read about here. Most / all other Cdn area codes don't have any problems you're experiencing. I've read that others with 672 have problems with calling / texting too...not just Public Mobile customers.
Unfortunately...a new number seems to be in your future.
Welcome to PM.
