About Add-Ons: 500 Canada Wide Long Distance Minutes,

Is this apply to local call also ? or is its only use for Canada long distance calling only ?

Hi @sugarorange5 you must have the $15 Plan with 100 minutes Canada-wide calls, like me.  Just a wild guess.. as all the other plans offered by PM presently have unlimited Canada-wide calls. 😊 

500 Canada Wide Long Distance Minutes - applies to both local and long distance calls within Canada.
as must already been answered by several posts above. But sometimes in our eagerness to share knowledge and advice, we tend to give more information than necessary. lol  Cheers!

I do see that most here are assuming that the 500 minutes will be used for some local calls on a plan such as the $10 or $15 plan. I agree that's most likely the case.  However, this question can be read in different ways.  If the 500 minute Canadian long distance minutes add-on is on the account, making a local call does not use up any of the add-on minutes unless the base plan is out of minutes (or if the base plan doesn't include calling to that part of Canada for a long distance call).

Seems like you'd have to pay more for 100 minutes of Talk on your old Telus plan, incoming outgoing local longdistance whatever. So you pay less to get more with your new PM plan ... I'm guessing your monthly phone bill is now less than it used to be ... what other logical comparison needs to be made?

You can't really break down component costs and pricing models between different operators. They each have their own business model and internal operating costs. They're not motivated to provide full transparency.

 

You can compare what they give you and how much it costs you.

 

What does Public Mobile do with that $4? Who knows, who cares, they have no obligation to tell us, we have no way to find out. Maybe some sort of E911 maintenance fee is factored into their overhead. Their itemized billing summary is already entirely arbitrary - they could say it's $10 plus $5 or they could say it's one $15 item or 15 $1 items or anything they like - so reading too much into won't provide much information.

 

But none of it should matter to us if their plan still costs us less than what their competitors offer.

There is no separate 911 fee collected by PM.  PM may be paying the 911 fee from the proceed of our plan fee.  It is like sales tax and someone has to pay the 911 fee. 

 

Please note that not all provinces have 911 fees.  The provinces not listed below does not have 911 fee.

NS 43¢/m, AB 44¢/m, QC 46¢/m, NB 53¢/m, PEI 70¢/m, NL 75¢/m, SK 94¢/m.

I am only suggesting another way of looking at it. 

 

My old Telus prepaid was $10 a month PLUS 911 fees and pay as you go xx cents for every in bound and outbound call and 50 cents more if LD in Canada. PLUS 30 cents for every inbound and out bound text. The only bit of bonus, LOCAL calls to spouse back and forth were free. And most calls to Telus were a $2 charge if the change could be done online your self. 

 

So based on PMs 500 Canada wide minutes add on for $5 at 1 cent a minute. 

 

The PM plan, in a way compares to my old Telus prepaid plan 

 

The $5 on PM for 100 minutes leaves $4 to cover what? 

Profit?

Inbound calls?

Canada wide?

911?

All texts?

And keep in mind PM should have a lower overhead expense. 

 

$15 plan is good for me, now at $12 just knowing what flexibility’s I have. Today with travel and no phone booths it is almost a necessity to be armed with a mobile phone no matter what your age is.  And think about this....kids with mobile phones have replaced baby sitters (or underaged to stay at home alone etc.). But often I never use half of my 250mb of data and maybe 10 minutes of calling. Most texting is iMessage over wifi.

If there's a 911 fee anywhere here, it's not shown.

All plans have a $10 base and then other feature "costs" added on. Or maybe the fact that you're saying what you're saying suggests I'm wrong. Wouldn't be the first time.

While I am not personally familiar with old plans....nor do I want to be....it appears by the way the current $15 plan is billed ......you are billed for a $10 plan plus a mandatory $5 for 100 Canada Wide minutes and possibly a 911 fee.

The $15 plan changed to limited outgoing and unlimited incoming minutes.

 

"The $15 plan" is now technically two entirely different plans, even though the newer one changed in one detail and unchanged in all others. I expect that few (if any) people with the legacy version of the plan haven't upgraded to the newer better version because there's just no reason hang onto the worse plan.

 

But it is still possible to find some (now wrong) information about the old "$15 plan" on the PM websites. Not to mention all sorts of (now wrong) information about the old "$15 plan" in the PM Community forums.

@brodieonline Talk minutes are not counted on incoming calls on the $15 plan. Unlimited incoming (from anywhere) is included. That table in the article is a bit misleading. The old no longer available $10 plan counted both incoming and outgoing calls against the totals.
