5g option in network settings disappeared after insterting PM SIM

I'm puzzled to what happened here. I have a canadian model Galaxy S20 FE 5G which somehow lost it's 5G band after I switched the SIM card to PM.  I've used this phone with 2 different service providers' SIMs and always had the 5G option in network settings.

I've tried basic troubleshooting like restarting the phone and resetting network settings but it did not help. The highest level of connectivity in network settings is still LTE and the phone data connection is LTE+ at the most.

Is this phone simply not supported by PM?

Yes, the public mobile network does not support VOLTE and 5G on Samsung S20 FE 5G. Switch to other carriers. I switched to Freedom Mobile and their network supports VOLTE and 5G on this device.

@Adam_Mrok , the S20 FE 5G is supported by Public Mobile.  It's the dreaded 5G whitelist that's not playing nice.  I have the same phone purchased from Public Mobile when they were selling pre-owned phones and it doesn't have 5G connectivity.  I am not surprised by your experience.

Funny you should say that (I actually thought that too since all plans throttle and LTE can easily support the higher speed) but where I live LTE is so poor that I get single digit speeds anyway and as it turns out 5G (even though I'm in 5G covered area) does not connect at all (after fixing the band issue with the NetMonitor app) ... oh well I'm switching to an LTE plan, save a few bucks 😉

@Adam_Mrok  Should have also mentioned that even the with 4G/LTE on phone network settings you will get better speeds then 100mbs  of a 4G plan being on a 5G plan with phone set to LTE

do a speed test to confirm
