I am no "guru" but a quick study. I am new to PM, bought a sim, popped into a spare phone and am extremely happy with the provincial wide calling with mms. So happy my wife and I will be notifying our present providers to port our numbers to PM. We will be going with the all canada talk with some data. So while we testing this carrying two phones I am, and one pops (not the PM) however looking to keep the pay as you go account(or maybe get a better deal prepay?) going for business so looking for a phone with dual sims. Every phone I have seen either support primary sim as 4glte and down with the secondary with GSM: B2/3/5/8 &
WCDMA: B1/2/4/5 (etc) but no 4g-lte. Can I use a secondary sim slot for my mms? Or am I stuck with either losing the mms or carrying a second phone? Also can I bring my pay as you go sim over to prepay or is it another 10$? Or wait till Xaiomi brings their redmi 5 pro china version here? I am a Android user....

What is your question exactly? I think @computergeek541 already answered your original question nicely!

I just "replied" to a two yr old "ask" here, with a few things to say about 4g'lte with a secondary 3g sim slot...I like you hope it helps.Yes with practically half the world dropping 2g there are a gaggle of phone(s) that do not specify 4g/lte and 3g secondary, even at the MNFTCR sites.
Xiaomi has some frequency is "problem matic" link to PM where you can browse phones that will match or not....https://www.frequencycheck.com/carriers/public-mobile-canada.
Anybody come up with solutions all all eyes ears and very appreciative!
Many thanks to all!

@bigjoe, generally speaking dual SIM phones these days are capable of doing what you are inquiring about. As discussed already, you should look for a phone that supports 850 and 1900 Mhz on 3G and B4 1700Mhz on LTE. As with all dual SIM phones, you will need to select a default SIM for data, outgoing calls and text. The default can be changed at any time. While on standby, any SIM can receive calls and text. BTW, be wary of Chinese phones that are not designed for the North American market. They typically are missing the aforementioned bands.

Thank you, merci...meegwetch.
My manners, trying to get straight answers off the net....is like asking if a camel has two hump...answer "camel hump for for sale ebay.com" lol...
I am like a lot of peeps, trying to stay on budget, getting the most bang out of our deflated dollar.
Really appreciate you taking the time, just learning to navigate this site....needed to learn how to ask the question(s).
Again Thanks!

@bigjoe I've merged your two threads as they seem to be the same topic. Your first post was to an old thread that's why response was slow.

This is too confusing for me by half. Here is what I understand:
a) dual SIM phones can have PM SIMs in both slots BUT be sure both slots support PM's network bands found here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Telus_Mobility
b) what pay as you go SIM do you mean? Public Mobile is 100% prepaid. Or do you mean a phone number on a PAYG SIM?
c) every PM SIM must be activated on a separate account/email address.
Ask more questions as needed.

LTE is not required for data and MMS. They will both work on the 3g network.

Data at Public Mobile will work on either 3g or LTE networks. So, yes, if that sim slot supports WCDMA on bands 2 and 5, you'll receive your MMS messages.

I am new to PM and no "guru" when it comes down to such answers/questions. I had a phone do the "blow out" while testing the PM network (no was with my reg provider)but I am looking for a new phone, preferable one with a dual sim(standby) I will be using a
pay as you you PM on a secondary sim for provincial talk and mms ONLY. Yes impressed with PM and their plans and was going to add as a primary sim canada wide talk with data. Is that secondary possible, considering I will only get 3g for mms (Slot -2GSM: B2/3/5/8 WCDMA: B1/2/4/5/8 )? Will my MMS come thru on the WCDMA, or should I carry 2 phones? (really load groan). I know Xaiomi is coming out with a 4g+4g dual slot phone Redmi 5 pro chinese verson...MAYBE.
