Hi,
I recently switched to a 5G plan. I can't get it to work on my phone. it only shows 4G. I tried updating my APN settings. I restarted my phone. No luck. I tried switching the SIM card slot from 1 to 2. No luck.
My phone is capable of 5G, it worked last year in Greece.
Any other suggestions?

I have seen a similar guide. This one looks manageable. I might make an attempt at it.

I think you will have better advise to check with OnePlus Community directly or Red dit . You will also see many complains OnePlus thing does not have the 5G showing on it. So, it might or might not be a PM's problem.
But check if this one helps, a bit of work, not sure if you are comfortable:

OS all up-to-date?
i am not sure if I can help to make the 5G appears again, but maybe I can help to make your 4G working at a more reasonable speed (150+ Mpbs)
With OnePlus, there might be a bit more work than simply updating. Many confirmed that you need to delete the current APN profile first. Then Add new profile and add according to this, please note case-sensitive and do not add extra spaces. Remember to save the new APN and then reboot the phone before you try

I bought it directly from the OnePlus website. They should have sent me a North American compatible phone. I checked my order and the phone was an "unlocked", "sim free" phone. I have looked at my APN settings and they are set to what they should be according to... this.

where you did get the OnePlus 8? There are different regional models and not every one of them is compatible with 5G in North America. Only those sold in North American (NA model) will work here. So, where you got the phone from?
and for your speed on 4G, it should be close to 200Mbps, another member here mentioned you need to update PM APN to fix the speed issue

According to the Public Mobile website, I am in a 5G zone while I'm at home and at work. I don't have another 5G device handy. I will have to wait for a friend or family come over to test it.

According to Fast.com, 72mbps down, 16mbps up.
Google.com, 98.2 down, 23.8 up.
Speedof.me, 112 down, 11.28 up.
How fast should my upload be on 5g?
09-22-2024 10:37 AM
latest firmware?
but dd you check the speed? you can still get over 100Mbps on 4G network, which is as good as using 5G. People always think 5G is better, it is not. 5G uses up your power more. The current speed on 4G could be as fast as when you are on 5G, so, you don't need 5G if speed is good

@Alveeto as mentioned by @computergeek541, this could be that where you are is not broadcasting 5G signal, this happens for me depending on where I am, I have even had my signal drop to 3G. If you are out and about in the city have a look to see what you are getting and if at all possible try your SIM in another 5G device if in doubt

I wouldn't spend time on the APN settings. The APN settings are the same no matter which network is being used and all Public Mobile plans allow access to the same networks. It's possible that the 5G network signal isn't that strong in your current location.
