how can I tell my SIM card is 3G, 4G or 5G? Telus contacted me that my service will stop working since I have 3G SIM card. I don't know how they figure out. Do I need to order a new SIM card?

VoLTE is voice over LTE. For many of us using not as top models of phone, we have been using 3G for voice calls. But 3G will be gone soon, and eventually, we will have to all get a device that supports VoLTE to have voice calls on LTE (4G) network
you can check if your phone is on PM's VoLTE whitelist:

if it is not, then start shopping for new phone. Since you are in Manitoba, your province will sunset 3G at the end of this year (while the rest of Canada could have another 2 years with 3G), so you have only couple months to shop for a phone that works here

yes, I am in Manitoba. maybe my phone is too old. I lost and broken phone too often. So, I used the old phone from a friend right now. what is VoLTE? how do I check it? Thank you.

While I didn't hear or view the conversation, but if this was followed by asking about if you are interested if you are switching to Telus Mobility or Koodo Mobile, this was nothing but a sale tactic. While I am not against the other Telus brands trying to gain a new customer, I do hope that they really didn't tell you that it was because you have a 3G SIM card as that explanation would be nonsense (as there's no such thing at Public Mobile).

Hello @HelenMB - With the name HelenMB I'm assuming you live here in Manitoba too. 🙂
Everyone who uses a phone on the Public Mobile network sends information to their network so they know what phones are being used. Telus, the parent company of Public Mobile feels you may be using what's coming up on an outdated phone that will no longer work on the Telus network (Public Mobile too). 3G is being phased out there in Manitoba shortly so, their just reaching out to folks to inform them and possibly find a better plan with a possible phone offer. However, with that being said, not everyone wants to be locked into a phone plan with an expensive phone. That's why you came here to Public Mobile. So, if you want to stay, you'll have to upgrade your phone by the end of the year. To help you, here's a phone that is pretty affordable and will work on the network as it's approved by Public Mobile.
It's at Costco. So you may need to find someone who has a membership if you don't have one.

hi @HelenMB it is not that sim card that is the problem but your phone is the issue
PM sim cards work on 3G, 4G and 5G networks
but your phone lacks the VoLTE support on PM network. What phone do you have? and you are in Manitoba? You need a new phone that is VoLTE capable to stay using PM network
