Hello,
My friend has registered for the 100 minute plan and he is saying that for some reason it ended so fast and that he didn't really use alk the minutes. how would he know if there is an issue with the service. it feels like it's not really counting the whole minute as it should.

I can't believe this to be true. Incoming calls that forward to voicemail should never use minutes. I would be interested to hear more evidence of this ever really happening.
The only instance I know of where call forwarding would consume minutes was with the old $10/50 minute plan where "conditional" call forwarding of incoming calls (usually to voicemail) would not consume minutes, but unconditional forwarding would.

Incoming voicemails sometimes consume your minutes. Sometimes they don't. (And they're not supposed to, anyhow.)
I suspect it depends on which networks/exchanges the call happens to be coming from - specifically, I think Bell (and other non-Telus) machinery ends up charging you for minutes whenever people babble away to your voicemail. I could be wrong but I have no other explanation for why some incoming voicemails cost against your minutes.

You can buy as many 500 min add ons as you want. You can get 1000 min for $10 and that could last 1-2 years depending on your usage.

Sounds as though not realizing that all calls are rounded up to the next full minute and that calls to voice mail count is likely the problem. Usage can be checked online.
As mentioned, the 500 minutes for $5 add-on is an excellent way to solve this problem or of course a move up to the $25 plan gives unlimited calling anywhere in Canada.
It definitely is TALK Minutes he is referring to that ended quickly…not the included data? The small allotment of 250 MB of data can be consumed very quickly if not careful.

I'm not sure what you mean whether there is something wrong with the service. Minutes can go by quickly while ringing and using partial-minutes (rounded up). In general, the systems that track usage are accurate. On the Telus network, the service is also reliable. You can track it manually and I'm pretty sure you'll end up with the same result.
You can also view details usage history in the self serve "My Account" that you can reconcile yourself to the minutes tracked as used. If there is truly an issue, you can reach out to a CS Agent with proof, but it's likely the minutes are correct.
The Add-On idea from @hTideGnow is a good one as a backup for a few extra minutes if needed and don't expire until used up.
In general, the cheapest plan is really more of an emergency phone for occasional use. 🙂

@JenJana Yes, 100 minutes could go away quick. Please note minutes are always round up to the next minute. So, those quick couple seconds calls really hurt, it will count as a full minute.
Check voicemail from your cell counts, too. So, you might want to use a landline to check VM
consider buying the 500 minutes add-on, it's $5 but a good backup just in case. The add-on is non-expiring and will roll over to the next month until they are fully consumed

Checking voicemail messages also counts towards your minutes. Also calls are rounded to the nearest minute. They should log into their account and check their usage history.
