Yeah it says credit card but a debit card will do. You can go with Tangerine or Simplii if you don't have one, these are free online banking.

Yeah no physical locations save a lot of money, same thing for online banks, they offer accounts with no minimum balance and no fees whatsoever.

Yeah I think some phones cannot receive messages unless data mode is turned on, even if its not imessage, I believe once you keep your data mode on, you should be able to receive texts.
