We've seen a few situations in which Public Mobile has mistakenly ported in the alternate phone number by mistake due to some strange website or port processing error.   The alternate number is only supposed to be a contact number for Public Mobile to call should there be a porting problem.  Public doesn't actually call the customer after a failed port (at least not usually), so my suggestion is for Public Mobile to just remove it from the port in number request form.  It's doing more harm than good. ... The website (and in particular the self-serve portal) has been very slow in the past weeks to the point where my browser is giving up and showing errors screens. Hi all,   I note that PM now offers US roaming, and that's great. It's a much better deal than Roam Mobility which I will no longer need.   However, I travel to other countries and I will need to find an option for that. Most other mobile providers enable roaming in other countries (at monstrously high rates, but at least it works). It's my understanding that outside of Canada and the US, a PM-equipped phone is a Wifi-only device.   NOW.... I am not requesting, let alone demanding, that PM initiate an international roaming add-on. Of course it would be my preferred answer. But I am aware that this involves massive amounts of negotiations with telcos around the world, and may be an unreasonable load on a barebones provider like PM with unsure levels of uptake.   What I am asking is for one or both of these things:   Add to the Knowledge Base (I would prefer an FAQ section, but whatever...) some information that clarifies the policy/situation on global roaming, and suggests solutions for PM users who travel beyond the US (including info on dual-SIM phones, different countries' LTE support and how to buy a local SIM outside Canada). I'd be happy to help write this entry; (even better if possible) please, PM, get into a partnership with a company that does do international roaming (like you do with Orchard for phones) like OneSimCard or iRoam or WorldSIM. Or maybe even cut a deal for even some kind of roaming addon from Telus, which has already struck these international arrangements. (Though it wouldn't surprise me if the relationship between Telus and PM was explicitly designed to steer international roamers to the premium product...). It seems to me that a significant number of the activation and porting errors adding to the pile of help requests are at least complicated by, if not a direct result of, attempting simultaneous activation and porting in the same operation.   Public Mobile has acknowledged as much in this message from moderator Dave_M on Nov.15: http://productioncommunity.publicmobile.ca/t5/Announcements/Doing-wireless-different-has-its-ups-and-downs/m-p/95883/highlight/true#M6239 Quoting the relevant portion: "Separate the activation from the port. If you do the activation first you will have your account setup and ready to go. You can then log into self-serve and complete your port. This prevents incorrect porting information from affecting your activation."   Therefore, my idea is to at least temporarily disable the option during activation that allows customers to port their numbers. Simply leave them with the option to select a new number, and in the place where they would normally enter porting information, display a brief message as to how they may port their number afterward through their self-serve account. At most this would force customers to spend a few extra minutes changing their service provider, but better that than adding unnecessarily to the risk of spending a week+ without service at all, and adding to the activation error backlog.   While this may seem a bit like closing the barn door after the horses have left, it would help minimize any further pile-on. I mean, just because the promotion is over, doesn't mean there are necessarily zero customers signing up at the moment. At the very least, if Public Mobile is planning any further promotional offers soon, then this should ideally be implemented before that.  If this ends up making a difference, perhaps this measure can be left in place indefinitely, at least until the risk of errors from the activation/porting combination is mostly fixed/eliminated.   ... I'm wondering if Public Mobile might be able to offer something similar to KnowRoaming? Basically they have deals with other providers to allow whatsapp messages and calls on their networks for free. KnowRoaming doesn't charge for any of that data usage.   If they can do it, I don't see how Public Mobile can't do something similar. Of course in order to do it, PM would likely have to have some sort of paid roaming plans with the providers for all non whatsapp traffic.   Anyway, just an idea! ... View more

The only thing that I will miss from switching to Public Mobile from Rogers is the coverage for my tablet.     Maybe something like an add-on for my tablet so that it would have it's own SIM card and a piece of my data allowance?  It's super easy to use the "Personal Hotspot" on the iPhone but it's an extra step when you are out and about with your tablet.  I would be willing to pay up to $10 extra dollars a month for the convenience.     I absolutely love Public Mobile service and I won't ever regret giving up my long term Rogers contract to save a ton of money.     Thanks ... It seems that this recent promo has resulted in a lot of comments on the forums, particulary about porting from one provider to another and other activation related issues. In regards to porting, many of the issues were related to the standard time it takes for a port to complete, in other cases there were actual port failures that needed to be addressed by PM.   I suggest that there be a progress indicator of some sort that indicates where in the port process you are and that this should be visible from your self serve account. In addition to this, it should give you a time estimate for when the process should be complete, automatically notifiy a MOD if there is an extended delay and indicate to the customer who was contacted and where in the queue of that MOD their issue is. Also if the error is the mismatched information provided by the customer, this could be requested as part of the process and the customer could easily refill the port form.   Something like: ____________________________________________________________ Estimated: 2.5 hours remaining   | \\\\\\\\\\\\Port Requested\\\\\\\\\\\\ |  Matching Info |  Wating for Company X   |        Error: Cannot match to Company X's account. Please verify your Port information and re-submit. ___________________________________________________________   A similar progress indicator could be provided for future dated activations, for those switching plans.    I feel like a lot of stress, frustration, and tension could be allieviated just through transparency.
