It would be benefiticalnto those wanting to sign up right away if there's a way to purchase a sim from a Telus or Koodo store for PM.

Instead of purchasing it online and waiting to get it.

Case in point : this FM promo, a lot of people would buy the sim and it does get to them they'll miss the promo. If they can just go to a Telus store and pick one up and get it signed up you'll probably have a lot more people flocking to PM for deals like these!

I just found out about the latest offer of July 6. Had there been a way to get a SIM card quickly, I would have transferred my mom and friend to PM, but alas, there's no easy way to get a SIM card...

@peosteve while unfortunate, one if the reasons Telus can offer you access to their awesome network at Freedom-level prices is because if their low overhead and internet-only service model. Unfortunately, you really can't have it both ways!

Keep checking back regularly and I'm sure there will be another tempting offer.

@srlawren

I agree with that, but should consider that when planning promotions. No sense offering a tight deadline on transferring a plan when shipping can take 5 days.

Why not "order by day X and activate by day Y" to redeem the offer? Like I wrote, I'd have ordered a couple now if I knew I could activate them on time...

@peosteve well in fairness, it was posted 3 weeks ago:

Also, I'm fairly sure it was mentioned on RFD (Red Flag Deals, a very popular deal sharing community)

@srlawren - you really think posting it in the forum and on RFD is a good way of getting the word out? How many PM customers do you think visit the forum once a month? I'm guessing it's a miniscule number. You're one of the big users, but most are not in your position. I haven't been here for months and haven't been on RFD in years.

I'd have been happy to have received an email or text about this deal. Those are methods of communication most people use daily...

@srlawren Just checked FB - not even a mention of the deal there either.

Hi @peosteve,

Sorry, I'm not trying to be confrontational here, but I do want to respond.  Could PM do more to put the word out?  Sure!  Could they have marketed to their existing customer base to let them know in case friends or family wanted to move from Freedom to PM?  Yes they could have.  However, PM has not actively done this type of soliciting to their customers in the past.  I'm sure some of us actually appreciate that, as opposed to some services or vendors that email repeatedly.  I know I usually end up unsubscribing or filtering those to a folder that I never remember to check.  However, everyone's mileage may vary.

PM doens't seem to release any customer numbers so it's hard to say definitiely whether or not this campaign was successful.  But anecdotally, looking at the traffic and posts about the FM promo on the community these past few weeks, I'm going to go out on a limb and say it's been noticeably successful (at least in terms of volume of new subscribers--issues not withstanding!).  So while they could perhaps more actively solicit, it does seem that at least some people are discovering deals like this.

To be candid, I personally believe they intentionally did not advertise this very widely or publicly.  This was a very targetted campagin, a very short term one (most promos are over a longer period), and aimed only at FM customers.  I think it's one of those types of situations where you needed to be "in the know" to find out about it, and I *think* (again, personal opinion), that this was deliberate in this case.

If you really are on the hunt for promo deals, I would recommend that you keep an eye on the Announcements section here in the community.  You can actually do that in few different ways.

The simplest, of course, is actively, by coming and checking, say once a week or so.  That would have given you time, in this case, I believe.  I am also aware of at least one passive option to know when new postings are added to the Announcements section here, which is to use an RSS reader to follow the Announcements section.  This is a little more work to set up, but should prevent you from needing to come back manually here.  Yet a third otion is to keep an eye on RFD, as I mentioned.  I'm not personally a regular user of RFD, so can't say for sure, but I'm betting there are ways to sign up for notifications of things that might interest you.  Maybe do a bit of digging around?  Oh, yet another option is to regularly check on MobileSyrup.com, which is my favourite source for Canadian mobile service and phone news.  They always report on promo deals like this.

So in short, I'm not trying to be a jerk, or necessarily disagree with you.  But I'm saying there are some steps you can take to keep in the loop if that's important to you, as it sounds like it is.

@srlawren You think that's confrontational?  HAHA

That wasn't confrontational at all.  I appreciate all your suggestions.  I would definitely sign up for periodic emails of specials that PM has.  I came over from Wind and I know a couple of people who would have been happy to move over, had they known about it.

You can tell me all the ways I could have found out about it, but you have to admit that it's a bit weird that they didn't post anything on Facebook, amiright?? 🙂

Hopefully the next time this happens, I'll find out ahead of time.  I still think it's silly that they still have it mentioned in the deals section, when it's far too late to take advantage of it, given shipping times.  That's just my humble opinion. 🙂

@peosteve if you'd like to see Public Mobile offer up some sort of opt-in email subscription to be notified about things like this, you could post a new thread here in the Public Lab area suggesting they offer that up.

No way Telus gonna carry Public Mobile SIM Card. Telus is using customers as Cash cows. I hate telus. Very expensive.

Seen people getting bills high all the time. PM is a poor man's network. They are using PM to retain customers from other operators.
