hi

I just received a text message saying that PM is making upgrades to their network that might impact voice connectivity after march 17th. your device may lose or experience a degraded voice service. PM is teaming up with telus and we are offering you a 5G plane at X in order to stay connected?

well one my phone only has 4G and they have been partnered with telus always haven't they?

Is this a scam?

If not I guess my time with PM will be short

3G network will be getting worse because some the bandwidth and frequency is being moved to LTE.  The LTE network will be getting better.

From what I found,, Moto One 5G has both 850 and 1900 on 3G and so it should work without issue for voice on 3G

You can check the spec of your phone or use some app to confirm if you have both bands on 3G

I honestly won't rush to move provider, wait and see.  For majority of us, this network change has no impact

@60_inch_tool yes Moto One 5G is not whitelisted by PM and you cannot use the phone on PM at the moment

A CS agent told me they will eventually let morr phones outside of the current list to use VoLTE here , but for now, it will only be Koodo or Telus

But Moto One works on PM's 3G network for voice without trouble, you don't need to rush to use VoLTE

Not sure why it's relevant, but it's a Motorola one 5G Ace. I know for a fact it's VoLTE compatible.

@60_inch_tool what phone do you have?

Can someone please explain to me how this doesn't just sounds like some ploy to downgrade service and force people to migrate to their PARENT COMPANY Telus who will charge way more and whose contracts usually include upping plan prices during a contract term?

If my voice calls take a dive because my phone isn't whitelisted by them, I won't be moving to Telus, I'll be switching to something like Fizz, where my phone IS whitelisted for VoLTE 🙄

Between the inability to select a plan lower than current, to now this... I won't be waiting around for strike 3... Which is a real shame, because I've been here since 2019.

This list is alteast 2 years old. Many phones have been released since for sure.

Easier and cheaper to just change networks but I appreciate the push. I was just about to get the wife to move over since their service is/was good. Hopfully they change the site to reflect that quickly for when people sign up. Not everyone has the newest phones or maybe its just me:)

Why is the whitelist so short?. Last time I checked there a many many more phones that are VoLTE capable.

Your call of course. But if you do need a cheap phone that will work on the PM network, Costco has a nice Motorola on sale.

Hey @Stirling182

No, this is not a scam. They are upgrading their infrastructure to remove the 3G in the near future. Even if your phone has 4G LTE, it still may not work after their working on the network. It has to be a whitelisted approved VoLTE phone. Here's a list.
