And if you give a referral you get $1/mo thereafter as long as they stay active with PM.

If the only issue is the cost of a new SIM, remember the price ($10+tax) is mostly returned as a credit ($10, not sure if it reduces tax) if you give a PM number as a referral. Not perfect, but it's not like you're out $10.

The way Public Mobile operates, the SIM cards are one time activation only. SIMs are not réactivâted after the 90 day suspension has elapsed.
I believe it is doable by some other providers, but not an option here.

@popping no idea. Probably not something I would want to risk.

Thank you for the link about reactivating an expired account within 90 days. Phone company do not recycle canceled phone number right away. If the canceled number is from Telus/Koodo/Public, subscribers may be able to get the canceled phone number back. People will be out of luck if the phone number is from other providers because the canceled number will be going back to the provider who own the number.
Will the moderator get your old number back if the number is still in the Telus/Koodo?Public "waiting" pool to be recycled?

after the90 days of inactivity you need to buy a new sim. what you could do is switch tho the 10$ plan before your sim expires and on day 87 say revew for @that gives you an extra 110 days before the account expires again.
this is a good read https://productioncommunity.publicmobile.ca/t5/Paying-for-your-service/Extended-Absence/m-p/142735#M...
