+1, although I am a little upset that a phone purchased via the Public Mobile pre-owned program is not fully compatible with the native network. It's not a big enough of an issue that I would agonize about it. As for competition, I think there's actually enough to avert price gouging. Because the number of options are limited, price discovery takes a little longer than in other markets. If anyone thinks that Telus or any other carrier are making out like bandits, they need look at the equity market and recalibrate the thinking.

Your facts about you misreading are wrong. Please stop.
The rest is opinion. I can say what I like just as well as you can (within the rules around here of course).
Yes I have free service on a couple accounts for years if all things remain equal. And the service just keeps on ticking. That doesn't mean I can't have severe disapproval for the software systems around here. That are appallingly bad. Embarrassing even. I shook my head in disgust again just this morning over the old error of getting someone elses number and so now not able to continue. Ridiculously stupid system.

no mis-read thing. i was laying out facts for everyone. Facts won't lie
Again, it is a usual practice for big corporations to have clear and different market position for each brand and offer slightly different products and services targeting different groups of customers. Roges, Bell, Loblaws, Metro all doing this. This is no right or wrong for that but just business practice.
And rewards are important part here. i knows many who absolutely dislike the service they got here but what is better to make someone stay? the Free service they got. Yes, my close friend is one of those and he keeps telling me he enjoys the free service here.

I wish you wouldn't engage with me. You are well aware we disagree on a lot of things. Where did I say Public sells phones? I didn't. You misread. Again. Rewards are a pittance of a minimal effect on their overall profits in the billions of dollars. Not even noticeable in any rounding error.

PM does not sell phones anymore, so limiting phones the access to 5G or VoLTE and pushing people to buy compatible phones would have no positive financial impact to PM, nor Telus (people can buy compatible phones anywhere and not just from Telus)
On the other hand, I don't see greed here. PM has been taking care its customers well. The legacy rewards program and the Public Points has been a great way to help customers to save money. Many are taking advantage of it and enjoying completely free service monthly as well.
And with Telus' corporate strategy, it is nature for a corporate running 3 brands to have clear and different market position for each brand and offer slightly different products and services targeting different groups of customers.

One plus phones don't seem to play nice with this service. I have a friend that is running a one plus, he's running into problems with 5G and VoLTE.

Oneplus 8pro. Tried in the US with different sims and it is 5G with with all providers

You need to manual set your phone on 5G in the Cellular Data Option settings.
If it is in Automatic it will switch to 4G if there is a weak 5G signal.

Thanks for your reply. It only shows 4 G on my 5 G phone
09-05-2023 11:38 AM
what phone do you have?
Some phones have the network type set to Automatic and will only use 5G it needs and stay with LTE/4G for better battery life
best is try speed test in different area and see how fast the speed is
