It's been a awhile since my son used Muskbird and he's been my reference on this subject. Had an oracle not archived @darlicious 's Muskbird how-to thread these changes to fees could be updated in that thread by fellow members.

@computergeek541

Muskbird still has the lowest fees of all online retailers of Public Mobile payment vouchers and instant top ups. With minimum purchases of $5 and $10 respectively and very quick turn around times they offer customers a 24 hour option to pay for their services.

In the event that a customer faces the 90 day account cancelation and deactivation deadline and cannot access their account online, in the app and/or via 611 (ie. Unscheduled maintenance) and minutes count...Muskbird's instant top up option (Public Mobile- RTR) is literally an account saver for customers for a 10% surcharge from the comfort of their home anywhere in the world and completed in less than 10 minutes.

I wouldn't consider that price to be good.  To this day, I do not understand why Public Mobile doesn't sell vouchers. The case for that is family members or friends help with payments without needing to let someone borrow a credit card.  Public Mobile is marketed as being a fully online company, but there's no way to buy vouchers or top ups for someone else directly through Public Mobile.  I think that this is a big miss on the part of Public Mobile.

Use Muskbird.com instead the surcharges are much cheaper than recharge.com and if you pay via e-transfer the fees are only 0.03%. They also send vouchers to your email in about 5 minutes or if you choose Instant Top ups (Public Mobile-RTR) they are sent directly into your account within seconds of completing your purchase.

The fee for the above wasn't ever set at 0.03% (example:  0.03% of $1000 would be $0.30).  Either way, the fee is now fixed at $1 regardless of the top up amount when paying by e-transfer.  Also, the fee that Muskbird is charging to accept credit cards or Paypal are now ridiculous at 10% of the pre-taxed amount. I understand that Muskbird needs to make money, but for a $100 top up, that's a large price difference just because of a different payment method.

I haven’t been able to use my own credit card since 2023 lol so for that year I was getting prepaid Visa cards to pay it and then that stopped working as well. It glitches out on me when I try to upload a new card or update the card.

so I’ve been using Recharge since early 2024. It is additional fees, I won’t lie. But it’s been quick, convenient, and I can still pay my phone bill. Especially because voucher cards are difficult to track down in person.

Absolutely. Oh well no big deal I have Koho now just thought it might help @Fickhesd if I could do it.

hi @hockeytalk

prepaid Credit card is accepted. But yours is from Canada?

Nope no luck same result on app and website that blanks out info. I also noticed the following on the website that indicates prepaid gift credit cards won't be accepted?

"We accept credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, American Express), and debit cards (Visa, MasterCard), provided they have been issued by Canadian or American financial institutions and are associated with addresses in Canada or the U.S. Adding or updating your payment information will automatically enable your subscription."

That is meant for signing up only with Public Mobile. A lot of people use prepaid credit cards here. Just going back to my original question, how long ago did you register your card? Also, are you sure it's registered. And finally, maybe because the amount of times you tried on the card, maybe there is a hold on the card? Might want to contact Joker just in case cause that happened to me once.

Side Note, that "are associated with addresses in Canada or the U.S. " is outdated. They no longer allow US credit cards UNLESS that particular card is on it already and it's grandfathered.

I'm entering my postal code that matches my address on my account. Should I try a different one as per your suggestion?

HI @hockeytalk

are you trying to enter the prepaid credit card ? try again using Incognito/private/secret mode and enter any valid postal code, any postal code will do. Just google one and find an address with the matching postal code

Just tried again and keep getting "invalid postal code"?

@Fickhesd

Also vouchers are available at Shell, Esso/Mobil stations, 7/11, Circle K....I've tried them all before I got my Koho card. Buy then add by calling 611 on your phone while you are still instore just in case you have a problem with the voucher. Should instantly reactivate your account.

I will try your suggestions again just in case something has changed since the last time I tried as I would like to use up my balance.

@computergeek541

Should I have started a whole new thread to ask my question to @hTideGnow ? Not sure what I did wrong to get my post deleted.

As far as I've read no one gas been able to add a prepaid credit card to Public Mobile for quite awhile. I've tried myself and it won't take it. Apply for a Koho card instead. Takes 10 minutes when applying for a savings account and you usually get their mastercard/bank card in 5 business days.

Unless someone specifically applies for a traditional credit card at Koho, the default card that gets sent to customers isn't a regular bank card (no a regular credit card), but is rather a prepaid Mastercard.

@computergeek541

I will fix my post I didn't want to use the term "prepaid" to name it sound like a prepaid gift credit card that @Fickhesd is having trouble with and that I have tried many many times to add without success.

hi @hockeytalk

Of course I did

PM payment system is glitchy sometimes, not just for prepaid credit card but regular credit card as well

if your plan not expired or suspended yet and you still have time, please wait a day or even longer before you try again.  When you try, try using both Incognito/private/secret mode on your browser and try with Public Mobile app (with Location Permission enabled)

but if your plan has already expired or you need to pay it very soon, then buy a voucher from Shoppers drug mart or gas stations and then load the voucher using *611 or My Account

Hello @Fickhesd

Sometimes, entering credit cards into the system can be a hit or miss due to constant cache problems. With regards to Joker cards, I myself use them for many reasons. I have used them here on PM as well. If you just purchased it, it can take up to a few hours for it to register on their end from what I've experienced. So I just wait 24 hours myself so I know it's ready. But if it's been a few hours since you registered it, go back to your browser, go to settings and find the browser cache by entering cache in the search. Clear the cache lifetime. Then close the entire browser and wait a few moments then reopen the browser again. Then go into Incognito mode and try logging back in and try again. If that doesn't work, you can always try using the app on your phone instead. I find that much easier to deal with. Moving forward though, I'd seriously consider using Vouchers which can be picked up at places like Shoppers Drug Mart. Much easier to deal with.

EDIT: I just wish to clarify something. You've been a customer for a while and this is just to top up your account, correct? I ask this question as for some reason PM doesn't allow people to sign up with prepaid credit cards considering it's guaranteed money.

As far as I've read no one gas been able to add a prepaid credit card to Public Mobile for quite awhile. I've tried myself and it won't take it. Apply for a Koho card instead. Takes 10 minutes when applying for a savings account and you usually get their mastercard/bank card in 5 business days.

Edit to post: I should say Koho issues you a prepaid Mastercard that acts like a bank/credit card that uses your account balance at merchants and online but also pays you back 0.5% cashback.
