Thanks-got it sorted! I was entering an incorrect account number...

Is that based on a text message that Public Mobile sent you informing of that error?  You'll need to use the chatbot to contact a Public Mobile customer support agent.

As for the ESN/MEID mention in that text message, neither of those codes exist.  It's the IMEI that you'll need to double check (if you are unable to get the Fizz account number).
