My iPhone 14 Pro Max will not switch from 4G/LTE to 5G. I can force it to work but I have to reset the network settings for it to connect to 5G. My wife is with Public and she has no issues. We tested it sitting right beside each other and she is connected to 5G. I've tried both "5G Auto" and "5G". In both situations it will eventually switch to
4G/LTE and never go back to 5G. Anyone else having this issue?

Thanks but this issue has been resolved. It was a PM issue. Their engineers had to go into the back end and change some settings on their network. After weeks of testing and troubleshooting with them they were able to fix it.

FYI - After 3 weeks and a lot of back and forth with PM tech support this is finally resolved. Telus engineers had to get involved and make some changes on their back end. Long story short my phone was connecting to a LTE site every time I came to work. Once it was connected to that site it would not allow my phone to reconnect to 5G even when I left work. The only way to get back onto 5G was to reboot my phone. It's all fixed up now. Happy with the support I got from PM/Telus to get my issue resolved.

I've been going back and forth with Public support team this afternoon. They are trying to troubleshoot and doing a reset of my account on their side. Fingers crossed. If not, I guess back to the drawing board and contact Apple.

I did contact Apple. They told me to contact my service provider. If they Public insists it is not on their end then I am to contact them again and they will escalate on the Apple side.

That is odd, I have the iPhone 14 Pro Max and no issue with connecting to 5G.
Maybe contact the Apple Support through the support app.

I've gone to specific location where I know for a fact there is Telus and Public 5G. My wife is on Public and gets 5G. When I'm in the exactly same location as her my phone won't switch over to 5G even though she's standing right beside me with 5G service.

This might be a long shot but check to see if there are 5G at your location and try it outside.

@GY7802tv Does yours have a case? Maybe try it without?

Different models of iPhone’s. Unfortunately we can’t switch sims. We are using eSIM’s.

@GY7802tv A couple of long shots, do you both have the same model phone and the same phone case? Have you tried switching sims with your wife's phone?

Yes I am on 17.4
03-06-2024 11:49 AM
Are you on the latest iOS 17.4? If not update software on your iPhone.

nope. neither is turned on. i might have to submit a ticket.
03-06-2024 10:34 AM
@GY7802tv And there's no low power mode or low data mode turned on? I suppose those would stop it from getting 5G in the first place but might be something to check. Otherwise perhaps someone else has an idea - or you could check with Public Mobile customer service by submitting a ticket at the chat/message icon bottom right of the page.

Hey Phil. Yes, I am on the 5G 75GB Canada/US plan. So that has been ruled out. Mine also does switch from 5G to LTE. Once I reset my phone I can get back on 5G but then I come to work and it switches to LTE. Which is fine but them when I leave work it will never switch back to 5G. It will just stay in LTE until I reset the network settings on my iPhone.

@GY7802tv Presumably the obvious, that you don't have a 5G plan, has been ruled out! My iPhone is on 5G Auto but I never get other than LTE when I'm at home. It does switch when I'm out and about in the area depending where I am. Could you have a data limiter turned out in settings?
