iMessages and FaceTime stopped working

Suddenly, my iMessages and FaceTime (iPhone 12 Pro) stopped working... they won't turn on... "activate". I have tried meeting with apple staff at the Genius Bar to no avail... they were stumped. Has anyone experienced this issue and is there a fix? Do I need to replace my SIM?

you can remove the phone number from iMessage settings, then reboot and then go back and put the number back to re-register.  The re-registration could take time, be patient

Reboot pheon and try Reset network settings and check again
