iphone can't send imessage and can't use facetime, keeps saying verifying on phone number

Hello,

I can't send imessage and facetime with my number. If I go to the imessage or facetime setting my phone number has a loading symbol constantly on it saying "verifying". 

Both incoming and receiving phone calls work.

I've tried restarting phone, disabling wifi/data, taking sim out, turning imessage/facetime on and off. nothing works.

Anyone had similar problems and know the fix? HELP.

after porting the phone number to a new carrier, sometimes, you need to register iMessage

Go into Settings to disable iMessage, then reboot phone and go back to reenable iMessage to re-register.  If it showing "verifying" still, wait, it could take as long as a day or so sometimes
