I was on a basic $15/m plan. I moved, and had to get wifi. I was told I had to upgrade my account which I did to the $35/m plan that was recommended. When I tried to activate hotspot I was told to contact Telus. After being on hold for mmore than an hour, they said they couldn't access my account, and to contact Public Community

Free wifi hotspot from #Telus or Shaw Go Wifi just requires your email address.
The other option is to purchase data Add-ons for $5 for 200mb or $15 for 1gb.
All these options are your lowest options on the $15.

Calling Telus will not help with Public Mobile issues. You need to ask for help on the community or contact a moderator for resolution.

Hi @guyc do you still have data left?
PM does not restrict hotspot
Try reboot phone again and enable it. I remember there was a post before and all it missed was a one more reboot
if that does not helps, check if you disabled Data Saver and Power Saver
Also check and post your current APN settings here and maybe we can confirm if it is correctly set

There is no restriction on hotspot. I believe that some iPhones show a message to contact the carrier, but this is a device issue.
