got new sim but can't activate it, need to keep old number

hi everyone

i lost my phone a month ago while I was away and ordered a sim card right away. I am just getting back now and did some searches as to how to keep the old number and change the sim.

i am trying to activate the sim, but it says the number is invalid...even though the 19 digits is absolutely correct.

i might have made a mistake in changing the sim card number first on my plan before activating. Is this why it may be invalid? What can I do If possible, I want to keep my old number and plan and rewards. Activating the new sim seems like I have to have a new account overall.

Any help on this would be suuuuper appreciated! Thank you so much

Dona

also for a brief moment it shows that it works with public mobile, but then goes back to emergency calls only...so it must be the phone somehow?

I have restarted my phone many times.

i have done the soft restart of power button and volume down that mimics the battery pull (apparently).

the galaxy s6 i cannot pull the battery manually without having to do a bunch of different steps with tools and don't wnat to potentially damage the phone.

the mobile strength is strong where i am as the sim works with a different phone.

i think maybe somehow the phone relocked itself to the previous carrier, sprint. it was working completely fine before inserting this new sim card.

This message is usually shown when the configuration data cannot be retrieved from the service supplier, but it could also indicate that there's a service stuck within Android.

1. Reboot your phone (soft & possibly pulling the battery).

2. Try again in an area where your mobile signal strength is strong.

hi folks,

thanks for everyone's suggestions so far.

I tried it in a different phone and it works. so it is not the sim card at least.

I have re-inserted it a few times as suggested and it doesn't work. I think it might be my phone as every time I start it up I get a profile update error message of some kind which didn'T happen before. It might have been re-locked somehow which is the only thing I can think of as to why the sim doesn't work.

Can you try someone elses SIM in your phone?

Samsung is very good with providing unlock codes but I should think the phone should tell you it needs one.

Maybe connect to the internet on wifi and then restart.

If you can transcribe or screenshot the message that might be useful too.

Try removing & re-inserting the SIM back into the phone.

I've seen cases where the SIM wasn't properly inserted and not all the contacts are making a good connection (remove & reinsert a couple of times).

If a friend is willing to help; you can try inserting their SIM into your phone to see if it works.

Something doesn't sound quite right.  Are you sure that you've only changed the SIM card, as per this thread (https://productioncommunity.publicmobile.ca/t5/Discussions/SIM-Card-Replacement/m-p/145711/highlight...)?

You don't need to activate new account.  If you did that, sim card was wasted and you will need to  buy new sim card again, and you paid for another plan for no reason.  Did you activate a new account?

If you did activate new account, you can use the new phone number

If you didn't do that, use the change sim card feature in your Public account.  If it says invalid, wait a few hours and try again.  Maybe, somebody else mistyped and already activated that sim card number.

Just tried all of that. still not working. will contact the moderators! thank you so much for your help tho!

@dnham Try going into your account, report your phone as lost/stolen, log out, wait 5 minutes, log back in and report it found, then restart your phone.

If it's still not working the you probably need to contact the moderators, you can send them a private message here: https://productioncommunity.publicmobile.ca/t5/notes/composepage/note-to-user-id/22437

ty

so i checked and it will not support 2g, everything else is good. So that means it should still work right? could it be something else?

@dnhamAs @Anonymous said, you should just be able to go into your self-serve account and change the SIM cards, if you tried to activate it afterwords it probably failed because it was already activated.

What phone did you get? Check https://willmyphonework.net/ to make sure it's compatible.

yes this is a new sim card

i went into plan and add ons, change sim.

nothing happened though on my phone after restarting...so thought maybe i need to activate it first, which also didn't work.
