eSIM purchase for international travel

Char62

I understand that data roaming is not available for purchase through Public Mobile when travelling overseas. My phone can accommodate dual SIM cards (one physical SIM and one eSIM). If I buy an international eSIM card  (like Orange, Saily or Airalo), I believe it comes with a different cell number to use if I want to call or text. Does anyone know if I can receive incoming texts/calls from Canada on my physical SIM (my existing phone number from Public Mobile)? I know I won't be able to answer them but can I receive them or can I see who might be calling my cell? (especially important when it comes to multi factor authentication). Hoping someone has experience with this and thanks for any help.

You can use WhatsApp if all parties have this app or use Fongo. TextNow app may k not work at specific countries where you are going.

@Char62 , if you have enable RCS messaging on your phone, you will be able to send and receive text using RCS protocol anywhere in the world provided that you keep the Public Mobile SIM in the phone and have access to data (either WiFi or mobile data via e-SIM).

As mentioned, outside USA and Mexico, PM service will not work at all in other international countries. Ie. unable to receive 2FA texts or calls to your PM number.  That is one major disadvantage.

Some banks will use other authentication apps (ie. TD bank) or email for 2FA authorization.  You may want to contact your various services of which other 2FA authorization methods are available.

For some customers, this a deal breaker for them and they had to leave PM for other mobile companies that offer this feature.

you won't receive messages once you're away from Canada. If you have a Cdn / US / Mx plan you'll get messages while in either country...otherwise you won't receive messages using Public Mobile.
