eSIM and SIM use

dino_b

I have iPhone 14Pro and I know it supports eSIM but currently, I use SIM.

I would like to use eSIM for 2 weeks while traveling in EU.  Once back to BC, I would like to go back to my original SIM.

I could not find any video or document explaining how to do this with Public Mobile.

  1. Is this possible?
  2. Will my phone number change?

Thank you

hi @dino_b

you can leave your PM sim like what you said.  But if you want to be easier, you can just removed the PM sim card during the trip and install only the esim.  Remember, after you installed the esim when you are in Europe, click Reset network settings.  And when  you are back in Canada, delete the esim, put the PM sim card back and click Reset Network settings again

the same number on the phone does not matter when you are in Europe, you won't receive calls anyway.  For iMessage, as long as your email is there, it will receive

@BKNS27Thank you!  If I understand correctly steps for me would be:

  1. leave your SIM in the phone
  2. once in EU, buy eSIM
  3. use eSIM as primary (I guess somewhere in iPhone settings, this can be set)
  4. once back to BC, use PM SIM as primary
  5. delete eSIM bought in EU

QUESTION:  Will my current phone number change while I switch from PM SIM to eSIM and back again to PM SIM?  I would like to keep same phone number all the time if possible.

You can leave the PM SIM in your phone while in Europe and purchase an eSIM there. While there, click on the eSIM as the primary SIM and when you return just click on the PM SIM as primary SIM then delete the eSIM.

You'll get a local esim in the EU for use while there. You won't lose your Public Mobile number.

hi @dino_b

if you menat PM esim, you don't need to change back and forth.  Public Mobile does not have roaming service in Europe.  You can simply remove the PM physical sim if you need the sim slot

@dino_b

You can go into your account and purchase an esim for $5. However, once your old sim is deactivated, I think you will need to purchase a new sim.

However, having said that, there's really no point for you to do this. There's no roaming in the EU with public mobile. You should purchase a travel esim in order to get mobile data. Try a airalo or orange.

To my understanding you could just get local EU eSIM, install it/activate and then redirect phone to use it instead of Can SIM.
PM does not provide service outside of North America/Mexico so you need to get local (e)SIM.

P.S. I hope more knowledgeable people will chime in soon to confirm or deny my statement (so I can learn from them!).
