you don't have to touch your PM esim, nor you don't need to buy a new PM esim when you are back
Phone can stores multiple esim profiles. When you are in UK, the travel esim will be enabled and your PM esim will be disabled (disabled and still there and won't be deleted).
When you are back in Canada, all you need to do is to disable the travel esim and make sure your PM esim is enabled.

What is the make and model of your phone?
Does your phone have 1 SIM & 1 eSIM or 2 eSIM?
If it is the one with SIM/eSIM. You can keep the PM SIM in your phone and purchase a travel eSIM. You just have to pick and connect to one carrier in the phone settings.
Same with the dual eSIM, you just have to connect to one of the eSIM.
The local eSIM will have a different number than your PM number.
When you return to Canada, just connect to the PM SIM/eSIM.

Yes, you can continue to use your PM account when you return back to Canada.
As you know, Public mobile does not offer international country roaming (except for USA)

@iaak , what phone do you have? Most phones can carry 2 or more e-sim at a time. I think they latest iPhone can do 8.

Yes, you will just have to re-purchase an e-SIM, unless your device as dual e-SIM capability.
