Hi,
Can anyone tell me:
I'm looking at getting the $25 package. I'm currently with Freedom mobile and their service in rural areas isn't great.
Solved! Go to Solution.

That site is a great resource! It's usually updated once a month as well when the IC database is updated.

I find the coverage very good

I have used an Android app to locate cell phone towers when referring friends to PM. As others have mentioned, Bell and Telus are partners. My experience has been seamless on the Bell and Telus (PM uses Telus) networks, as opposed to Rogers with their "extended coverage". There is a web browser version with the same cell phone tower map.

What make / model is the phone you want to use. Make sure it's unlocked and not blacklisted. Look at top of this page "Get Started". Scroll down until "Find out if your phone is compatible with PM networks"

Any information being given here will be a generalization. No carrier cover every location perfectly, and while customers can advise of the type of coverage they receive, each cell site services a limited area.In a particular place, some people might think that coverage is great there, especially if they're just passing by outdoors, but indoor or underground coverage could be an entirely different expererience.
As for Freedom, their coverage area is definitely growing. Howver, they've only recently been filling in some gaps of outdoor coverage area in the middle of major cities, so as @will13am was saying, there really is no comparision. You should be aware though that it is still posssible to have some places with better coverage with Freedom over Public.

@aztec Sister has that plan; lives north of hiway 11 between Barrie & Orillia and reception is fine.

@aztec , don't even try to compare Freedom coverage to Public Mobile. Freedom barely covers the GTA. You will be fine with Public Mobile. The service is nation wide.

All current Public Mobile plans have access to both 3G *AND* 4G LTE for data. When connected to the 4G LTE network, your speed will be throttled to "3G-Like" speed, (which means 3Mbps) except for the 1GB data only plan, which is *NOT* throttled to 3Mbps when connected to 4G LTE.
Public Mobile does not (currently) support voice over LTE, so your phone will switch to the 3G network for phone calls.
3G data is not throttled on any plan, so you may see speeds anywhere from 1 to 20 Mbps - Usually less than 10. The cost savings are worth it though, I and you are highly unlikely to notice any difference in performance in regular daily use accessing apps, streaming, browsing, videos, etc.

PM is owned and operated by TELUS so you should be good if you have TELUS or BELL towers near you.

@aztec Same as Telus, Koodo, Bell, Virgin and Lucky.

Public uses LTE for Data and Texting. The new plans just throttle down the speed to 3Mbps which is more than enough for the majority of users unless you watch 4K videos all day.

Great Plan. No doubt coverage will be better.

@aztec I would say way better than Freedoms coverage. PM uses the Telus network, so it would be on par with Bells. Heres a coverage map, use it to check the area.
