activated SIM card not working

AndreaK

Hi, I activated a new SIM card with a new number on an older unlocked phone this afternoon, but it is still not finding the Public Mobile network. I tried to check that it was compatible, but the phone compatibility link hasn't been working for a few days and I know the phone was used up to a few months ago.

I thought all I had to do was activate the SIM card and put it in the phone, but I have powered the phone on and off and removed and replaced both the battery and SIM card a number of times. Does anyone know what else I need to do?

The phone is an LG A448.

Thanks....of course the case is only effective if you keep it on the phone. Sigh.....

Lol....I used to hang up on people all the time with my cheek! Then I discovered speakerphone! The Alcatel one touch is actually a very versatile little phone with a great battery. It even has Bluetooth so you could make your mom a playlist on a micro sd card and get her a set of headphones (wired or not) and she could rock out while gardening or whatever.....even the bf only managed to only break the screen of mine which is saying something.

@BeachNBeer   I tried front and back case like yours .. but the under screen fingerprint reader does not work (yes, I know the fingerrprint sticker, it just won't work.. 😞

(in fact, i like these front and back cases.. using it on my phones without underscreen fingerprint reader.... but the new one.. doesn't work)

Who would have thought?!?!? But actually it makes sense since people who don't have good hand control have difficulty manipulating the touch screens and also not hanging up constantly with their cheeks (the two reasons I'm looking for a flip phone for my mom!)

It looks like this is the right one. Thanks. I'll try the SIM card in it when I see my mom, who is the one I'm trying to switch to Public with a phone she is comfortable using, so she doesn't have to worry about running out of minutes.

@darlicious  Haha the BF is being punished lol. Maybe your method of punishment will teach him for future lol.

Not sure what case you had on his phone but for future consider a case that is both front and back. Example picture below.

@BeachNBeer

The bf needs to learn to keep the case on his phone or he's not allowed to have a nice phone. He killed the pixel 3xl so this is his new phone while I file the insurance claim. I can't wait to see his face when he opens the box!

@AndreaK Public Mobile also sells used phones. They have a sale going on right now and you can get a "Like-New" flip phone for $19. Link below.

@AndreaK what's the full model on the one touch?

As for contacting support. If you're trying to go through the chat bot to open a ticket it can be a hassle at times. Use link below to private message them. But if it's just about phone compatibility there is no need to write support we can help you.

https://productioncommunity.publicmobile.ca/t5/notes/composepage/note-to-user-id/22437

PS - the compatibility checker is old / outdated and really of no use. It's a list that is updated manually by PM. It's nothing automated or anything.

So what is the full model of the One touch?

Thanks. Good info to have.

I haven't been able to contact customer support. It's not recognizing either my account credentials or my PIN. Frustrating, but it sounds like it wouldn't work anyway. I'll try the SIM in another phone.

And while the customer service itself hasn't been good, the community support is awesome!

Customer support agents would not have been able to help you with this.  You will however need to contact them if you get a compatible phone but the service still doesn't work.

Have you been trying to tango with Simple--Simon? He has 2 left feet. I much prefer private messaging. Put the issue in the subject line and leave a detailed message.

 Keep an eye on the envelope icon next to your avatar at the top right corner of your screen for a little number to pop up indicating a reply from a CSA. Responding promptly will speed up service times but expect a reply within an hour of opening time at 6am eastern.

I think it is. It would have been great to be able to use the compatibility link. I tried it from different browsers and just get an empty option box. This has not been a good experience trying to get this set up.

The person that this is for has trouble with touch screens so I am trying to set up a flip phone. Do you happen to know if the Alcatel OneTouch is compatible (or somewhere that I can find this information)? Otherwise I'll cut my losses and go with Freedom since it sounds like the phone works there.

Alcatel OneTouch isn't a phone model but actually an entire line of phones.  Which model are you thinking about?  Where did you get this phone from?  The LG F4NR version that will work at Public Mobile is the C441. Unfortunately, the A448 Wind (Freedom)/Videotron/Mobilicity version goes by the same marketing model name but contains different hardware.

@AndreaK

Its not looking good for your phone if it's the model mentioned by @computergeek541 as it's compatibility is on the 2G network mostly.

https://productioncommunity.publicmobile.ca/t5/Get-Support/Will-the-LG-A448-work-on-the-Public-Mobil...

Ultimately put your SIM card in another phone to see if it works and if it does that 100% confirms the issue is the phone. But by the end of this year it won't work on any Canadian network anyways.

By any chance, is this the version of the F4NR that came from Freedom Mobile?  Sorry, but that isn't compatible.
