Can I withhold my current plan charges for five months because I am outside of Canada for five months?

There is no option to put PM plan on hold.
Nevertheless, if you can afford and want to keep your account and number, downgrade your plan to $15 Plan and set autopay. Every 30 days you will be billed $15.
Other option is to remove autopay, let plan gets suspended on next renewal due to no payment and on around 88th day pay manually for the next month. Let plan gets suspended again on next renewal. Repeat.
On both cases you will have to login; in case#1 to confirm bill is paid with autopay as autopay might fail. In case#2 to manually pay for a month.

Up to 90 days>> pay and reactivate for 30 days>>suspend again for up to 90 days>>repeat.
Here's more info on suspending your service while away from Canada...
Most important mark on your calendar day 85 of your suspension and day 90. Do not forget when you must unsuspend your account via lost/stolen and/or pay and reactivate your service so you don't lose your phone number and account. Happy travels!

@TJAngel , unfortunately that is a bit too long. If your account is suspended for 90 days or more, it will be deactivated. You can implement a future dated switch to a cheaper plan as a placeholder until you get back and do a renewal maybe 88 days into suspension.
