Why is data usage not resetting with a new month?

RoyDelisle

Is data a one time purchases not month to month. I was under the assumption that the data plan i have is month to month and reset back to 0 used each month.  I literally just got thanks fir your monthly payment and next message your at 95% of your data used.   Which is impossible

Data add-ons aren't supposed to reset during a renewal. If that happened, you would be loosing whatever else of the add-on that you haven't yet used up.

One time data-specific purchases ("Add-Ons") will add to your account once, then sit there until used up.  Your Plan's data will be used up first before dipping into the Add-On purchased.

Your Plan's data will reset every 30 Day cycle and not every month as other providers do.  This is where some of the ideas that @esjliv mentioned.  Logging into your Self Service account online will give you a good picture of your current situation, and your phone may also have a log of apps that consumed the most data as well.

Let us know if this helps address your problem?

@RoyDelisle

If you are talking about your PLAN DATA, yes that is supposed to reset every 30-day cycle.

Plans here are 30 days, not monthly.

Check to see if your device is set up to notify you of data usage. Most phones can do this to monitor your usage.  It may not be set up with the same start date, so if you use this tracker, you must change it on each renewal.

If the PLAN DATA line item is showing on your overview page in your Self Serve, you are okay...go by that.

But receiving texts about 95% used can be concerning I get that.

Install an app to track your ‘live’ usage so you can keep track of your 30 day usage.

If you are android, try this one:

Data Witness app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/detailsid=com.iwik.datawitnesspm&hl=en_CA&gl=US

I use this one myself and it gives me what I need from it.

You could also check out Data counter widget: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.roysolberg.android.datacounter&hl=en_CA&gl=US

If you are an Apple user, I am sure there is a 30-day app that is available as well.

@RoyDelisle   best is to check  My Account and see what is it showing.

The text is not reliable... it could be it sent late (there has been some incoming call and text issue this week)

@RoyDelisle : Is your data on? Are you on the $15 plan? Do you have your phone set to only do OS and app updates while on wifi and not data? Do you only allow a select few apps to run in the background?

Which plan are you on?

Sometimes messages are erroneous. Check your self serve account for current status and addons usage.
