What to do to set APN on iPhone 4/4s when unable to connect to data

One way to manually set APN on an iphone 4/4s without jailbreaking the phone is to use Apple Configurator software.  If you currently own a MAC it is available here.

and here are the instuctions to set up a new APN profile to then install on your iphone 4/4s

Another option would be to see if the apple store can help you with this at their genius bar, as without a jailbreak or thsis softeware manual entry of the correct APN is not possible on iphone 4/4s

If you do not have a mac, I am sure you can try at your local apple store at the genius bar, rather than using a third party website to install items onto your phone, who knows what they are installing

Per my initial post the most recent version of Iphone Configurator is available here and it continues to be supported.

Any one with a mac computer running its current OS cn download this mac app and then set a custom APN for their Iphone 4/4s

I am not an apple user, but I believe the issue is that Apple stopped updating the phone software, and only in recent releases has one been able to update APN settings.

So the only options are to:

• uses a third party website
• get a newer iphone
• switch to android
• ask apple to release an update 🙂

so I think unfortunately, for the immediate future you have to use the third party solution

I posted as my friend had thsi issue on two phones and there are seven active threads from folks who couldn't get data on their iphone 4/4s.

Also the iphone 4/4s most recent update is to IOS7 and IOS7 doesn't allow the manual entry of APN info.

iOS 7 does not install automatically. This is another solution: will need to connect your phone to wifi, access APN iPhone 4 with Safari, then follow the directions there.

iphones  automatically get the correct APN settings .. i used iphone 4s and 5s and upon inserting sim, all was set correctly... if the iphone does not populate the correct APN, then there are issues with the phone ... most likely an IOS update waiting to be installed....
