What does reprovisioning your SIM do?

Tsawwassen

I have heard that if one is experiencing slow data speeds they should try to reprovision their SIM card.

How is this done?  Does transferring one's account to a new SIM do the trick?

you preform any speed test?  what result you got?

@Tsawwassen   what phone you are on? iPhone?  you sure your Preferred network is set to LTE?

Also, did you do some speed test in different area of the city?  it could be just local network issue.

For " do not notice any data speed improvement", as long as you get speed over 3Mpbs, you are certinaly on 4G speed.  But of course, you can message support and ask them to re-provision the sim and see if it helps

When on 3G I set to 3G - when on 4G I set to LTE --

If you're switching plans then you would need to know that there's a 48 hour delay before the new plan speed would take effect. So you switch up to a 4G plan (remember, 3G and 4G here is all about speed) a couple days later you should see the faster speed. Switch back down to a 3G speed plan and a couple days later you should see the slower speed. But in those couple days you would still have the speed of the prior plan.

Would transferring the account to a new sim do the trick?

Yes, it would

also, putting  the same sim card on a new phone would force a sim reprovisioning as well and could fix some issues.  However, this might not fix everyhing and hence it might still require a ticket to support for other reset on the system

Could my problem be because I do switch  plans back and forth from basic 3G to 4G as required. Even while on 4G I do not notice any data speed improvement>

HI @Tsawwassen   It is a complete account refresh

But what exact problem you have?  ask CS agent to re-provision first before you go and buy a new sim card

Think of it like a complete reboot that one might do of their home Internet, by unplugging power and Internet cables for about five minutes.

going further, even ISPs can do a complete reboot from their end which users cannot do. I’ve had one done once with my ISP, and it did make a difference.

@Tsawwassen

not likely if the account needs re provisioning. Dunno but...
Have you tried any other troubleshooting tips ?

What are the symptoms ?

How long has it been happening ?

Does things improve as you move around town ?

What make / model is the cell phone ?

I would wait until agent performs re-provision before wasting brand new SIM.

@Tsawwassen   it pretty much an account reset on the system.

I got this from another post:

In telecommunication, provisioning is the process of preparing and equipping a network to allow it to provide (new) services to its users.

SIM Card provisioning is a process to activate the SIM Card network and services before it is used by customers.

Re-provisioning of SIM card is nothing but repeating above process from scratch.
