I have given my old phone to a friend and she needs it unlocked.
The old phone was on public mobile, I took my SIM card and put it in my new phone no problem.
I can’t seem to find how to get the old phone unlocked. I try to open a help ticket and keep getting an error message. It is proving very difficult to reach an actual person with Public mobile.

It must be because the official announcement by the CRTC was on December 1/17 and carriers were not to lock.

@BKNS27 There was some carry-over into 2018, I bought a 2017 phone in spring 2018 and it was locked to the carrier. I'm guessing they didn't go back through old stock and unlock them before they sold them.

Only original provider can unlock your phone. If that was PM and you had service before 2017 then youhave to get in touch with PM agent.
To Contact CSA-agent: https://www.publicmobile.ca/en/on/get-help/articles/contact-an-agent
Ticket has to be opened through chatbot - https://widget.telus.tiia.ai/publicmobile/publicmobile.html
Just type ‘ticket’ and follow prompts. Having a ticket is preferred way to contact agent as they might respond faster then receiving personal mail.
If opening a ticket does not work very first time, contact agent directly: send a private message to the CSA - agent by clicking (Ctrl+) Here

@Michlou Have you tried putting a sim card from another carrier in the phone to see if it is still locked? To contact customer service send a private message using this link

They'll reply at the envelope icon top right or at Messages under the avatar. The chatbot/ticketing system has been broken since earlier this year unfortunately and doesn't always work

Bring it into a Telus/Koodo/Mobile Klinik store to have unlocked but if you got the phone after December 1, 2017…it is unlocked.

@Michlou Did you get the phone from PM years ago , is only way they can help otherwise you need to get the unlock code from the carrier the phone came from originally. But here’s link for support
send a private message To CS_Agents
