Unlimited Data still not here?!! - Public/Lucky/Chatr

Lucky and Chatr offer Unlimited Data. That's a pretty huge advantage. Reminds me of Freedom. Freedom slows you down to faster speeds where as Lucky and Chatr is a bit slower; still an amazing feature to have (128kbps speeds).

I wonder why all discount flanker brands have Unlimited Data except for Public Mobile?!!

Then why did you choose to leave Freedom, and why do you choose to stay with Public?

This suggests that Public already offers you something else more important than Unlimited Data, yes?

Hi @allagelman   we usually don't pick your own reply as solution.  This is more a discussion post, no solution is needed, I think.  No one here can answer why Unlimited data is still not there other than PM  🙂

Chatr and Lucky have really slow unlimited data and pm has rewards and non expiring one time purchase add ons.

Actually my daughter just bought a TELUS contract with unlimited data....and quotes that after a usage point.....the rest is throttled back.

@darlicious That is true anybody can leave if they choose too. It’s easy to be biased for most because if your getting $20 in community rewards + $5 loyalty rewards + $2 autopay + refer a friend rewards that’s free or almost free service. I wouldn’t complain about anything being bad here. Unfortunately most customers don’t get all of these rewards. For some it’s unrealistic. Others are def more biased then others on here for that very reason. I get it.

Hi @allagelman  you can easily get the $2 Autopay + $2 Loyalty reward, so, maybe that make you happier?

@allagelman

Only oracles get $20. And currently only 2 members get $15. 6 get $10 and 8 get $5. But most here know if you want a $0 bill its best achieved thru referral rewards. But the other great thing about pm is the free gifts. Why would I need a trickle of throttled unlimited data when I have so much free add on data? Between my two accounts I have nearly 40gb of free data add ons.

I also have another 5gb bonus data add on from my activation on my other account as well.08/20 promos were offered to most but not all BC and Alberta customers recieved this offer and a few eastern Canada customers recieved it randomly.I also have another 5gb bonus data add on from my activation on my other account as well.08/20 promos were offered to most but not all BC and Alberta customers recieved this offer and a few eastern Canada customers recieved it randomly.

@KorthUnlimited Data is the best for the exact reason.

Check Email.

Bing or Google.

Waze or Google Maps.

I've been with Freedom and their Unlimited Data is pretty good I'll say. Those who say its bad either:

A). Work for the big 3.

B). Live in Rural Canada with no or little Freedom Service.

C). Does not understand Unlimited Data past your allotment is not meant for Downloading or Streaming.

128/64kbps (or 64/64kbps) is not a "huge" advantage. Especially since it is a nominally rated peak speed, not a reliable real-world typical speed - Freedom and Chatr customers complain often about how pathetically slow their "unlimited" data flow actually works out.

It is enough to fetch email, meander through lightweight webpages, stream low-/mid-quality audio.

It is not enough for anything else unless you want to wait through glacial load times, be frustrated by constant stutters and skips and pauses, and experience endless server disconnects/timeouts.

For comparison, consider 64kbps cellular vs the 56kbps modem speeds in use during the late 1990s. It would take minutes to load a few fullscreen images. A morbidly obese website full of back-and-forth script interactions, advertisements, and distractions (not unlike a typical modern social media site) would crash the browser more often than not.

Sure, "unlimited" slow data trickling through a narrow straw is better than no data at all. Especially during emergency situations when you might need to lookup a map or address or something.

But Public Mobile seems to be doing just fine without offering this feature, regardless what "everybody else" might be doing.

@allagelman

How so? I can change to any plan I want when I want it.

5 years. Zero bill with Public Mobile.  Will take that anyday before 128kb of unlimited data.

Hi @allagelman   we have different advantages here.  Like the Add-ons are non-expiring until fully used, we have the reward program.  Most people could take advantage for the $2 Autopay reward and $1-$5 Loyalty.  The Community reward is another plus

Yes, i do hope they have the unlimited data, even at lower speed.  But maybe PM tries to position itself as the cheapest providers (after all the rewards) instead of fighting with the data limit

From what I see the rewards only make sense if your on a plan you're happy about.

@allagelman

My accounts are free without my community reward.

Correct, PM does not offer slow speed data if you run out of data included in your plan. Instead, PM offers great set of rewards to bring the cost down. Some of us rather prefer to save money than have unlimited data at 128kbps speed 🐢

These three no-frill brands work so closely together it would seem because no one wants to budge slightly to offer better things like faster 3G speed (5mbps?), VoLTE, WiFi calling or discounted promotions instead of $x off for 6 months offers. It's been years since I have seen PM competing with other brands and Lucky/Chatr do the same. Unfortunately, that is how they operate and like any other business, revenue is the most important goal.

For most customers rewards are not very significant unless your on here full-time. For example, if your a Mayor you would have a bias because your paying much less then most out there. Most customers are not in the same boat.
