Unable to use iMessage after transferring old number

I got this text when transferring my number, Can anyone help please.

Hey, it's Public Mobile. We're having trouble transferring your number. Looks like you entered an incorrect ESN/MEID. Someone from our team will contact you shortly using your original phone number or the alternate number provided. I did confirm yes to my old provider when I got the text to allow my number to be transferred. Now when I try and access my iMessage it says "an error occurred during activation. Try again". I have tried toggling iMessage on and off and restarting. No luck so far. 

Everything else appears to be working, and when I check my phone number on my new device it has the phone number that I was trying to transfer. 

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Sorry to add to that, once I turned my old phone off, I am no longer able to receive calls to my new iPhone

So, I called and they tried to re-start it. They told me it would be 2-3 hours and I should get a text saying everything is completed then to restart my phone. I'm currently on hour 4 and no text. I tried restarting my phone anyways and no luck. 

I am receiving calls and can make calls. However I am not receiving texts or iMessages to my new phone.

You probably have an incomplete port.  You are unable to receive texts or calls.  

I will send you the phone number for the Telus porting team.  Check your private message inbox.  

After the port is complete, hopefully, your iMessage will start working. If not, come back and we can troubleshoot further.

try cycling phone OFF..then ON. After that, go in to settings and see that iMessage is enabled. See if that helps now.
