I dont need all the data I have. I want to “downgrade” and pick a plan that has less data and is less expensive. But Public doesnt allow it. I created a ticket and messaged Public about it. Sounds like you are never allowed to downgrade. I pay for 6 different cell plans for family members. All different plans. On every plan there is no option to pick a less expensive plan. Only more expensive ones are available. If you pick a more expensive one, all the ones less expensive than that disappear. Anyone have a solution to this? How do I downgrade?

I was able to “downgrade” my plan on renewal just recently (Apr 10/2025) from $39 to $29 so just keep checking your available subscription options every week or so

Best way to do this is to port your number to a competitor network. Then after 30 days or so you will qualify as a public mobile new subscription. Sadly, the best rates are usually "new subscribers only"

Just a heads up to those who downgrade (I moved from a $34 US/CAN 5G 50GB plan to a $29 CAN 4G 30GB plan) - there is no point doing an immediate change instead of a change at renewal.
I did so early in an attempt to get one of the promo deals (eying the $29 US/CAN/MEX 5G 20GB), but nothing new pops up immediately. I'll likely have to wait until the next promo cycle before better deals pop up for me.

BTW, You should only change on renewal so as not to lose all the money that you have already paid on your current plan. I never worry about public mobile's "for limited time only" warnings which often push people into changing right away. You have to be patient, better deals are always coming.

@SKSuh @SteveQuin @phurf2023 @ORNGNBLK
You are all following a good strategy. As long as the data meets your needs, you should downgrade to a cheaper plan whenever possible to open up better priced and better plans in your change subscription in the future.
Of course, if you did not buy such an expensive plan to begin with...

My current 68GB is about 60GB more than I need so jumped when I saw that a $29/30GB plan was available for me at next renewal cycle (after we are back from Mexico). Sure it’s 4G but then 5G doesn’t really exist in my part of BC anyway

@SteveQuin If you opt for this less expensive plan, you may find that it then “unlocks” another plan or 2 that are also less $. Hopefully you’re able to tier down to where you want to be.

I face the same situation, I want to downgrade my plan too. But when I try change my subscription, there is no any downgrade option. What I can found the best one for me is the 1 dollar less and 15G more data plan. OK, better than nothing.

Yes, sadly it rarely comes up as an option to reverse to a cheaper plan

Hi @Remk
yes, downgrade is never a program, just you might not see all the plans.

Something changed, now lower price plans are available via app. I was able to "downgrade" from 50GB US/CA $36 plan to 75GB US/CA/MX $35. Wasn't able to see this plan before, only higher priced plans.

Yah I had to same issue but I think when there’s a new promo that’s comes out some of the past promo changes and goes down cheaper but I could be wrong

I was just given the same option thankfully!

Currently learning this after regretting my upgrade to a 35$/mo plan that I don't need. I'm no longer singing this brand's praises. Guess it's time to shop around unfortunately.

@Kmfilipow in addition to these answers, I have found that downgrade offers are usually presented at key times like “back to school”, “Black Friday” and Boxing Week”. You can wait and see if your personal offerings change during those times if you happen to miss a sporadic offer like @funpig1 received and happen to catch. Best of luck

One option is to port your number out to another carrier then port back as a new member but your will need a new SIM/eSIM if you want to keep your existing number.

If the low priced plan is not available in your account. One option is to port your number out to another carrier and port back to a lower priced plan but you will need a new SIM/eSIM when you port back as a new member. You will also loss all your accumulated points though for any rewards.

hi @Kmfilipow
downgrade is not a problem, just you don't get all the cheaper plan you want. In fact, download or upgrade, PM will only give you a selection of plans based on your current profile
what plan do you have now and which plan you want to change to?

As a general observation, PM usually does not allow its subscribers to downgrade to a plan that is cheaper than their current plan.
Occasionally, PM may give you the option to do so for a limited period of time.
For example, in the last 24 hours, I have had the option to downgrade from my current $23 6GB plan to the $20 3GB plan in my Change Subscription. In my experience, this opportunity is pretty rare and I expect it will disappear pretty soon.
Unfortunately, PM does not treat everybody the same. Most of my family and friends do not have the option to downgrade to a cheaper plan at this time.
What is your current plan?
