 Hello Community,

I purchased US talk and text and the talk doesn't work. Very frustrating!

Could someone PLEASE help me to make it work???

VoLTE works even with data turned off.

Yes that's why we were puzzling over it.  So this applies even when roaming and without a data component to the add-on and you believe it is coincidence that turning on data got the phone working for voice?  I've read in another carrier's FAQ that data roaming must be enabled for VoLTE to work when roaming outside of their home region.  So in that case you would turn on data roaming but it should not need cellular data enabled in addition to allow VoLTE on a talk and text only roaming add-on?

Ordinarily it shouldn't but maybe for roaming?

Interesting. I wonder if phone calls using VoLTE now requires data to be on. Great it's working. And you NEVER have to worry about surprise extra charges at Public Mobile, as everything is prepaid.

Ty Denny Crane! My problem was that I was scared to turn on mobile data, because they always warn u about big additional charges. Once I turned it on, the voice calls went through. I hope they won't charge me over and above $15 that I paid for add-on, will they? The SMS worked with mobile data off, it just voice calls wouldn't.

Sorry Great neighbor,

Those thanks were directed to u! I got confused🤷‍♂️

@Asker123 That shouldn't have an impact on calls and text, but it's best to just leave it on all the time anyway, as there are never extra charges that you don't prepay for.

While you're at it, set your Preferred Network to 4G/LTE when in the US, because if you happen to connect to AT&T 5G nothing will work. Only AT&T 4G and T-Mobile 4G & 5G work.

Ty DennyCrane, actually my problem was that I didn't turn on mobile data because they always warn u about the charges. Once I got over my fobias and turned ot on, it was ok. Ty 4 taking your time to answer to my request.

@Asker123  If your phone is non-VoLTE then you need to try and set it to connect at 2G on T-Mobile but availability is hit and miss.  If it is a VoLTE enabled phone then you can try AT&T or T-Mobile but set the phone to 4G/LTE and not 5G.  If one carrier doesn't work then try the other.  Some phones may try and connect to Verizon which isn't a PM roaming partner.  Is it just talk that doesn't work, can you send SMS text messages, not just receive?

@Asker123 Are you in the US? What phone are you using? The US shut their 3G networks down, so being able to make calls while in the US requires a phone that is on Public Mobile's VoLTE whitelist.

Please see if manually selecting the T-Mobile network to connect to helps.
