US service not working on 1 of two Umidigi phones

I have a Canada -us plan for both my phone and my wife's phone. We were in Tennessee for two weeks. I could send and receive messages but could not make phone calls. I contacted help and followed all their suggestions but nothing worked. My wife could make phone calls. My wife was able to make phone calls on her phone which is an older Umidigi model. I switched my SIM card into her phone and I could make phone calls. I don't even get the dial tones after dealing a number. The same thing happened when we were in Florida last March, but I finally got my phone working, but I do not know why it worked all go a sudden.

Could this be a APN issue? I looked up the recommended APN settings and tried them. Could this possibly be a an issue with the phone?

My wife's phone indicates a $G network and she can make and receive phone calls and has full messaging ability. She receives and sends messages - no problem. My phone will receive and send messages but not phone calls!!

hi @Gpa

reason is that Umidigi phones are not on PM's VoLTE whitelist.  It means that you are still using 3G for voice.  Canada is ok for now still, but US has retired 3G network in most area.  So, with phones not on the VoLTE whitelist setup by PM,  it is pure luck if you get voice calls in US while roaming, but technically expected if you don't get calls

next time you are in US, you can try to connect to T-Mobile and hopefully you still can use the 2G network there.

However, the long time fix is to get phones that is on PM's VoLTE whitelist.  And you will get same voice issue when Public Mobile/Telus decommission the 3G network, which expect to be within the next 2 years

you can confirm that your phone is on or not on the VoLTE whitelist by using this link to test

Hello @Gpa

APN is for data.

You're lucky her phone can make calls down there. I am thinking she's using the back up of 2G since 3G is shut down in the US but she may not have data usage.

To confirm if your phone will work with Public Mobile, please see this link. At the bottom of the page, you can insert your IMEI number and the system will advise you if it will work with Public Mobile.

EDIT. Your phones may not fully work down there. Since you are CURRENTLY in the US, you may have to buy a burner phone in the US at Bestbuy or Walmart and just insert your SIM card in it since it should be unlocked. While there, use the stores WiFi to go to the Volte link above and enter the phones IMEI number of the phone you want to get to see if it will work on PM.
